[continue reading] {NAME} - the Senate just passed a landmark bill to protect the rights and freedoms of those in marriages that are between those of the LGBTQ plus community, as well as those of interracial relationships in H.R. 8404 - the Respect for Marriage Act. While the passage of this bill is something for celebration, no progressive landmark bill comes without aggressive opposition from the MAGA GOP. 36 Republican Senators, including Mitch McConnell who is IN AN INTERRACIAL MARRIAGE, voted against the legislation. Their initial disapproval came from the bill's original version, known as the “Defense of Marriage Act” signed into law over 20 years ago, which the new law repeals on grounds of discrimination against the LGTBQ plus community. [vote] It is disheartening to be in a place where we feel the need to codify the rights of our LGBTQ-plus citizens, as well as those in interracial marriages, due in majority to the relentless attacks on rights by the MAGA Republicans. While they continue to hide their bigotry and hatred behind the catch-all phrase of “religious freedom,” we know where those policy positions eventually escalate into - the repeal and reversal of rights. With the overpowering example of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, the GOP rhetoric of no rights being under attack was IMMEDIATELY followed by bills introduced across the country banning abortion as well as other medical care. The concurring opinion of Clarence Thomas reveals the intentions of the MAGA-GOP clear as day, as he wrote that he would consider an overrule of: “...all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell.” This is why the Respect for Marriage Act was not only monumental but imperative to protecting the rights that the fringe right has set itself upon to destroy. [We cannot allow the continual erosion of rights, despicable fear mongering, and vile hatred spewed by those in the anti-American MAGA GOP. Join this fight today!]( [Chip in $25]( [Chip in $50]( [Chip in $100]( [Chip in Other Amount]( We must continue to fight for the rights of ALL Americans and remain steady in our beliefs that we are all worthy of pursuing our rights to life, liberty, and happiness. - No Dem Left Behind [thank you] Paid for by No Dem Left Behind PAC.
