The benefits of cannabis legalization are HUGE. [continue reading] {NAME}, The Biden Administration announced today that they are taking steps to decriminalize cannabis at the FEDERAL level. They also announced a pardon of “all prior Federal offenses of simple marijuana possession.” This is a HUGE announcement that will impact many across different socioeconomic backgrounds. Cannabis has legitimate medicinal purposes, and where it has been approved for recreational use, it has benefited those communities with increased tax revenue. In rural communities, the legalization and sale of cannabis have the potential to bring in MILLIONS of dollars. In turn, that allows other areas around these communities to sell the plant for various uses – hemp is used in creating fibers and the non-psychoactive properties of the crop can be used for pain relief. If federal decriminalization has the same economic impact across the country as those states that have already allowed for the sale of cannabis, some states could see tax revenues as high as $423 MILLION DOLLARS (Colorado - 2021.) These tax revenues then can be used to fund a variety of needs across the country – including healthcare, infrastructure, education, and more. The possibilities of benefits from the legalization of cannabis are MASSIVE. Family farms can bring in a new crop source that can revitalize their way of life, people on non-violent drug charges can finally have a second chance, and the medical benefits of cannabis can be more fully understood in the pursuit of ending the opioid epidemic. Removing cannabis from the black market will weaken street dealers and ultimately reduce overall exposure to drugs that can cause real damage. It also keeps families together, as parents would no longer be ripped from their children and face the prolonged economic disadvantage of jail time for a victimless crime. This is just one step in the right direction. As we know, the midterms will either seal our majority or create an uphill battle for more democratic policies to help those across the country. Pitch in today and help us to secure and defend those majorities so we can continue to see WINS for rural and working-class communities.
