My granddaughter will always fight for us Dear {NAME}, My name is Edith Luftig, and Nikki Fried is my granddaughter. Iâm 92 years old, and this week, I published an op-ed in the Sun-Sentinel, talking about my experience trying to get medical care as a senior in Florida. To put it simply, it was the ultimate indignity. I was mistreated, ignored, and charged $28,000 for being handled like cattle. And I know Iâm not the only one with a story like this. We must do better by our seniors, and my granddaughter has a plan to make that happen. Her plan will lower our costs and raise our standards. Itâll give seniors a billion-dollar tax rebate, improve transportation options, lower prescription drug costs, and help facilities like mine with critical staffing levels. As our next governor, Nikki will make sure seniors are treated with care, dignity, and respect. When Nikki told me she was considering running for Governor, I told her it would be a hard thing. But I couldnât be more proud to see her stand up and advocate for those of us who need it most, no matter how challenging it gets. My husband, Norman Luftig, was a veteran who served this nation in World War II, fighting to protect our rights. More than 75 years later, Nikki is running for governor to defend those same rights â for our freedom of speech, for our freedom to do what we want with our own bodies, and for the rights of seniors like me to be treated with care and dignity.
