This is a new low {NAME}, Usually, I’d be reaching out today to ask for your help with our January fundraising deadline. But, this week, Ron DeSantis and his GOP allies have gone above and beyond their usual level of authoritarianism, prejudice, and cruelty. So, instead, I want to talk to you about a bill that’s making its way through the Florida legislature. HB 1557 and SB 1834, or, more accurately, the “Don’t Say Gay” bills, prohibit school districts from having in-school discussions about sexual orientation or gender identity and allow parents to sue schools if they feel topics of discussion are inappropriate. I’d tell you what I think about this bill, but this sums it up perfectly: This bill will kill Florida students. It takes away one of the most accessible, safe, and reliable sources of support for LGBTQ youth. It’s a legal tool of alienation, discrimination, and suppression, and it’s unbelievably cruel. [But we’re not going to let this happen without a fight, {NAME}. I’m ready to stand with the LGBTQ community and fight back against DeSantis’ authoritarian cruelty towards Florida students. If you’re with me, click here to rush a $10 donation today.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be processed immediately. [$5]( [$10]( [$20]( [$50]( [$100]( [$250]( Ron DeSantis has done a lot of harm to our state. But moves like this truly call into question whether he has any sense of compassion, empathy, or basic human decency. These are kids, {NAME}. They need support from their teachers. They need somewhere to turn when they feel unsafe or unwelcome. They need to know that their identities aren’t taboo. And whether this bill passes or not, I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that LGBTQ youth have the support they need.
