{NAME}, On January 6th, 2021, a group of right-wing extremists descended on the U.S. Capitol in a violent attempt to overturn the 2020 election results. That day was a reminder not only of the danger that radical right-wing politics poses to our country, but of the growing and dire threat to the foundations of our democracy. One year later, that threat has only grown. Across the country, politicians like Ron DeSantis are taking extreme measures to harm our democracy and keep us from exercising our right to vote. Every day, they’re pushing our country closer to authoritarianism. And now, it’s up to us to take action, protect our democracy, and make sure that what happened on January 6th never happens again. That’s why I used my position as the Commissioner of Agriculture and as the only statewide elected Democrat in Florida to revoke weapons licenses for individuals involved in the treasonous attack on our democracy. And that’s why I’m fully committed to fighting authoritarianism and strengthening our democracy in any way that I can. I hope you’ll join me in remembering the officers we lost on January 6th, and the loss we, as a nation, have suffered seeing our Capitol and our nation’s founding ideals under attack by our fellow citizens. Thank you to everyone at the Capitol who put themselves at risk to protect our nation’s most sacred institutions. And thank you to all of you who have spent the past year fighting to hold the perpetrators accountable, strengthen our democracy, and keep our communities safe.
