I've often been asked if I didn't already have an online business, what would I do to try and make my first $ online?
If I were starting from scratch, it might surprise you, but I would strongly consider trying to build a $1k per month income stream with Kindle eBooks to start.
Don't get me wrong, I love niche sites! But I think it would be much faster and easier to get to $1k/month with Kindle ebooks.
In fact, I proved this a few years ago. I was making $2k to $3k a month for a few months with my very first Kindle books.
(I eventually let that business fizzle as I pursued other bigger opportunities, and I actually sold the website + kindle books to someone else).
You don't have to wait to rank in Google. You can publish a book, and if you've done your Kindle keyword research properly, you can rank MUCH faster. And you can run discounts and promotions on day 1 of your book to generate sales and push up your rankings quickly.
As you may recall, I just released an interview with Dave Chesson where he talks about his Kindle strategies that help him make $7k to $9k each month from his books.
He also happens to have a niche site that is making $40,000 a month.
If you didn't watch or listen to that interview, listen to his [Kindle and Niche site strategies right here](=).
Also, Dave was nice enough to offer a FREE "Mastering Kindle Keywords" course that will teach you exactly how to find low competition Kindle keywords that will help you launch your kindle business.
The course is free for those that purchase Publisher Rocket (which is his software tool to find low competition keywords and do competitor analysis).
But Publisher Rocket + Mastering Keywords Course is only available this week (ends soon).

Ultimate Niche Site Guide to $3,000 a Month
I just spent the last 2 weeks updating an old blog post on Niche Pursuits. The result is what I believe to be the #1 guide for how to build a niche website from $0 to $3,000 a month.
I have several video tutorials that you can watch and even checklists that you can follow.
Oh, and of course I have screenshots and videos of traffic and earnings.
Google also believes I should rank #1 for this article, which I do.
You can [read the ULTIMATE niche site guide right here.](â
I really did put a ton of hours into this piece of content. So, if you have friends that are interested in building niche sites, you now have a complete resource you can send them to (for free).
Email Case Study PAUSED But Not DEAD
=â
It's time for an email case study update! As you may recall, my plan was to try and take a DEAD email list of 20,000 and try to revive it.
Turns out it's pretty hard.
My emails are still going to people's junk folder for this particular domain (unrelated to Niche Pursuits).
But there's a silver lining, I made more money in the last couple of weeks that in the first 2 months!
However, I need to hit the pause button for the next 3 months or so.
But the case study is definitely not over, just on pause...

Got Links?
In other news, I continue to work on OwnTheYard.com.
The site is still earning roughly $3,000 a month, but I'd like it to grow even more (although Fall and Winter is really not the peak season for "backyard" stuff).
My plan?
Update content and build more links.
So, for a quick update, I've actually decided to try out the Shotgun Skyscraper technique taught by Mark and Gael from Authority Hacker.
The only problem is that I don't really have time to do it.
So, about a week ago, I hired the guys at Niche Website Builders to start a Shotgun Skyscraper link building campaign for me.
No results to report yet, but I'm hopeful over the next few months as they start ramping up the link building for my site.
If you are interested in getting a link building campaign for your site, you can get [10% off the Shotgun Skyscraper service by going through this link here]().
I'll keep you posted on how the link building goes.
Content Freshness: Is it a Google Ranking Factor?
How often should you be updating your old content?
How important is "freshness" for Google?
These questions and more are what Ron Stefanski tackles recently in a guest post I just published on Niche Pursuits.
This post actually strikes close to home as I've recently been updating old content and even removing completely out of date content.
I'm a believer in content freshness.

Thanks again,

PS - For the record, I do think Kindle would be a great way to make your first $1,000 online. However, long term, it would be ideal to build a niche site that you can then send traffic to your Kindle listings to generate even more sales as [Dave Chesson explains in his interview right here](=).
