In 2015, Tom Hayes was sentenced to 14 years in prison for having an extremely effective network. He had connections that listened to him, and that cost him his job (where he made millions as a trader) and up to 14 years behind bars. I'm currently finishing up a book called "The Spider Network" by David Enrich that exposes a massive network of connections that Tom had trying to manipulate LIBOR. Basically, Tom was a prolific trader at UBS and later CitiBank where his massive positions in the market would gain value with very minuscule movements over time from LIBOR, a borrowing rate set by banks. Over the years, he learned which employees at each bank was responsible for setting the daily LIBOR rates, made connections with them personally, or through people he knew...and then would more or less ask them to nudge their rates higher or lower based on his positions. If he could get a couple of banks to change their submitted rate by just 0.01, that could have an impact that helped him, but was small enough to usually go unnoticed. It was a genius plan! But it was extremely unethical and illegal. Turns out, I have a bit of a "spider network" myself. Through blogging over the years, I've made random connections with people that I never would have before. Although, I can't manipulate a bank overnight borrowing rate...I CAN influence the price on certain things. For example, I got Matthew Allen to reduce the price of his product AMAlinks Pro by up to $100 just because I asked him. My spider network is in full effect! (If you want to check out what AMAlinks Pro is, how it can help you earn more through Amazon Associates, and take advantage of the discount that ends TOMORROW, [check it out right here]()). Fortunately, you or I won't go to jail for this discounted products "scheme". It's totally legit! But the power of networks is very real, Google is based on the entire premise for links and much more. Other Spider Networks... One of the biggest users of "spiders" is Google. They are constantly crawling your site trying to determine whether your site has added new content, indexing it, and then deciding where to rank that content on Google.com. Sometimes these spiders find something they don't like on your site and the Google algorithm can penalize your site for what it finds. These Google updates have been going on for years and can cause massive movements in the ranking of your sites. So, how do you survive a Google Algorithm update? Well, earlier this week we published an in-depth article that reviews some of the past Google Algorithm updates (including a few from this year), but also shares strategies for how to survive these update. [Read How to Survive a Google Algorithm Update Here](=) I hope you enjoy the post! Thanks again, Spencer PS - I hope you have a great weekend! Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
