Plus: Jake Browning Named AFC Offensive Player Of The Week [View In Browser]( [Bengals Blitz]( [Jake Browning]( GAME WITHIN THE GAME: WHY BENGALS DBS ARE AMONG JAKE BROWNING'S BIGGEST FANS What people are finding out now is that Jake Browning has become a popular sort in his locker room while meticulously preparing for this final stretch of smashups in this AFC demolition derby. Mike Thomas, the only Bengal alive when they last won a Monday night road game, has seen just about everything in the NFL. But maybe not that. "We've always had guys around the league willing to help, but sitting in a meeting on their day off?" Thomas is saying at his locker at 7 p.m. in this screwy short week. "You can see him right now. Always studying. Making sure he's got the checks now that he's playing." "Jake has always been willing to help and I think that's why everybody is really rooting for him fully getting his opportunity." Making his second career start, Browning completed 32 of 37 passes (86.5 percent) for 354 yards and one TD with zero INTs. He led all NFL passers in Week 13 in completions, completion percentage and passing yards. Browning's 86.5 completion percentage marked the fifth highest in a game in Bengals history (minimum 20 attempts), and the highest in NFL history by a QB in one of his first two career starts. Browning's 354 passing yards were the second most in team history by a QB within his first two starts behind Jeff Blake, who passed for 387 yards in his second start on Nov. 6, 1994 at Seattle. Browning became the 10th QB in the Super Bowl era to pass for 350 or more yards with a completion percentage of 85 or higher. But Evan McPherson is still "Money Mac," as he cashed Monday night's 48-yard walk-off field goal to give the Bengals a 34-31 win in Jacksonville. His last chance to win one on the last snap came in overtime of the 2022 opener at Paycor Stadium, a 23-20 loss to the Steelers where the Bengals lost long-snapper Clark Harris for the season. Earlier in the day he had snapped for McPherson's Bengals' record 59-yard field goal. But with 3:33 left in OT, the new operation yielded a high snap and McPherson yanked a 29-yarder left, and the Steelers got one instead on the day's last play. "Like you said, it's been a while," McPherson told Bengals radio voice Dan Hoard after the game. "Just been itching to get one since week one against Pittsburgh last year. That one kind of stung. It had been lingering." [READ MORE]( [Joe Burrow]( DOWNTOWN JAKE BROWN THROWS BENGALS BACK INTO THE HUNT Bengals center Ted Karras had just helped oversee one of the most dynamic victories in franchise history, a 34-31 overtime road Monday Night conquest of AFC South-leading Jacksonville generated by the 354 yards and 86% passing of backup quarterback Jake Browning in his second NFL start as the Bengals evened their record at 6-6. "Downtown Jake Brown. I'm going to make it stick," Karras declared in the EverBank Stadium visitors' locker room as Browning shook his head don't. "It means we're in the hunt," Karras said of the AFC's jigsaw playoff picture. "We're on the graphic and moving up." Browning went downtown on the Bengals' longest pass of the season, a 76-yard touchdown to Pro Bowl wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase one-on-one down the left sideline that gave the Bengals a 21-14 lead on their first series of the second half. A play Karras said worked, in part, because of a season-high 156 rushing yards on a season-high 31 rushes.
