Plus, auto brands were a stand out at CES 2024 [View this email in your browser]( Nowhere to hide for Boeing We wrote a couple of weeks ago about Boeing’s struggles after part of a plane’s fuselage [blew off mid-flight]( but it serves as a good case study in the scrutiny of increased media attention. For a number of reasons, airplane malfunctions always find themselves at the forefront of people’s imaginations, with the potential for harm at the top of people’s minds. An incident such as this brings public interest in a way other comparable incidents often don’t, and that begets increased media scrutiny. Since January 5th, the day of the incident, there have only been 47,000 articles that mentioned Boeing in the headline or summary, an average of more than 2,000 a day. In the 90-day period prior the average had been around 520 articles per day. And needless to say the tone of the top articles was much more negative among the more recent articles. We typically see news events rise and fall in coverage in the space of a few days, but this has extended for almost three weeks now in the case of Boeing, as [new near-misses]( and incidents have emerged, as well as [criticism from the airlines]( that use their planes. The media has continued to pay close attention due to huge interest from the public, and this doesn’t look likely to change in the near future. Auto brands were a stand out at CES 2024 CES wrapped up just over a week ago, and several brands took the stage to unveil and spotlight their innovative new products. It’s no surprise that auto brands were among them, but they were also some of the most eye-catching at the show and across social media, earning hundreds of thousands of engagements to their own posts or posts about them. [Pubity]( had the top Instagram post, and highlighted Sony’s CES press conference where the brand showcased the newest iteration of its Afeela EV. What really sparked conversation though was the fact that the car was driven onto the stage using a PlayStation controller. The post collected over 362k engagements overall. [BMW]( also impressed on Instagram with its CES experience, and [Hyundai]( had the top Facebook post, in which it discussed its hydrogen energy and software solutions.
