Plus, Billionaires, trillionaires, and President Zelenskyy at the WEF [View this email in your browser]( Politics everywhere, all of the time Surprise! In an extremely predictable turn of events, Donald Trump won the Iowa caucus for the GOP nomination on Monday. This confirms him as the frontrunner for the party’s nomination for the general election in November, but it’s worth looking at some of the content around the caucus to see what resonated in the build-up and aftermath. In the last week there have been 46k articles written about the Iowa caucus, with more than a million engagements. The top article was [Breitbart’s coverage]( that 68% of caucusgoers don’t believe that Joe Biden is a legitimately elected president — probably not a great omen for democracy if you think about it. On social media, there was a mix of coverage. On X Vivek Ramaswamy [accused CNN]( interfering with the Iowa caucus. Ramaswamy has now dropped out of the running after a lackluster showing in the state. Joe Biden meanwhile [used Trump’s victory]( as a fundraising opportunity, framing him as the clear frontrunner and beginning his general election messaging early in the cycle. On Instagram Trump’s son Donald Jr. had [many of the most engaging posts]( while ABC News reported Ramaswamy dropping out [on their TikTok]( to the tune of 306k engagements. Discussion on Reddit went even deeper, with [extensive conversation about a poll]( that nearly half of Haley voters said they would vote for Biden over Trump in November on r/politics. It’s a long way to go to the election of course, but we’ll be checking back in on a regular basis to see what’s resonating with the public as candidates are confirmed and the race gets closer, but we’ll also be keeping an eye on [the year of global elections]( that is set to see more than 2 billion people voting. Billionaires, trillionaires, and President Zelenskyy at the WEF The annual World Economic Forum meeting has kicked off in Davos, and to coincide with the gathering of business elites, Oxfam has released its latest inequality report revealing that the five wealthiest men in the world have more than doubled their fortune since 2020. But that isn’t the only scary revelation to come from the report, as it also suggests that within the next decade the world could have its first trillionaire, and it might not even be from the richest five we have now. Although the meeting only began on Monday, articles about Oxfam’s report have brought it the most attention so far, with [CNN’s story]( earning a few thousand engagements, and [its social media post]( tens of thousands more. On TikTok however, President Zelenskyy is turning heads as he returns to the WEF for the first time since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. [Bloomberg Business]( shared a video of Zelenskyy being introduced to several global finance leaders, and he also joined WEF executive chairman and founder Klaus Schwab on stage yesterday for a discussion on security and cooperation. Criticism over world leaders is in full swing though, as [memes]( continue to draw attention to the irony of the world’s richest people being the ones to discuss how everyone should consume less. We’ll be watching to see how the rest of the week unfolds.
