Plus, 10-year-olds take over Sephora [View this email in your browser]( Boeing faces another crisis The [Federal Aviation Administration grounded 171 Boeing jets]( last week after part of an Alaska Airlines plane’s fuselage fell off mid-flight, and several potential safety issues for the plane manufacturer have been discovered since. Since the initial incident there have been over 21k articles written that mention the incident or the type of aircraft, with over 254k engagements to those articles. Thousands of passengers have faced disruptions as Boeing was required to perform inspections of each aircraft, of which Alaska Airlines and United Airlines both found bolts in need of tightening and various installation issues, according to [BBC’s reporting](. There has been signifiant engagement to social media posts about Boeing, particularly Instagram, with [Pubity]( seeing over 200k engagements on just one post about United Airlines’ findings. 10-year-olds are taking over Sephora and everyone is mad It all started just days after the Christmas holiday when TikTok creators from all over the country began to make a unique observation — Sephora was being invaded by pre-teen girls. There are now hundreds of videos discussing the “issue” on the platform, with adults pointing out instances of young girls occupying entire sections of the store, surrounding employees, and purchasing products they say they’re too young to be using. These TikToks have amassed hundreds of thousands of views, but what’s gotten even more attention is actual footage being shared of these young girls shopping, with videos seeing several million views. Now, we’re not going is show you those videos of pre-teens in Sephora, not only because it’s intrusive, but because the children aren’t actually the problem here. I’m a younger millennial myself, and I grew up at a time where makeup tutorials dominated YouTube, Kylie Jenner was trending for getting lip filler, and your cool factor was determined by having the latest Urban Decay eyeshadow palette. The urge to grow up fast is not a sudden Gen Z thing, but what has changed is their access to products and social media’s influence, as well as people’s ability to get publicly angry about it at their expense. While there’s an apparent annoyance at 10-year-olds online, there are people who have acknowledged that this younger widespread consumerism simply can’t be the fault of children. Brands could use this as an opportunity to better define their audience and use social media as a means to educate young consumers on products that are a good fit for them. And it’s even possible that beauty chains like Sephora and Ulta could create more youth-focused stores, similar to ones that millennials had growing up, but we will have to wait and see. For now, the debate continues on TikTok. 2023 IMPACT REPORT Our commitment to improving the media ecosystem [Read report →]( 2023 BRAND REPUTATION REPORT The biggest brand reputation hits of this year [Read report →]( 2024 ELECTIONS A quick reference guide to the elections you should be paying attention to [Read blog →]( WHAT NEWSWHIP LAUNCHED IN 2023 All the features we brought to our platform last year [Read blog →]( [Website icon]( [Twitter icon]( [LinkedIn icon]( Copyright (C) 2024 NewsWhip.
