Plus, Spotify Wrapped [View this email in your browser]( Liquid Death avoids lawsuit with dead billionaire Don’t worry, no one was actually harmed in the making of this Instagram post, but Liquid Death was able to dodge a near crisis by getting creative with the name of its new product. When the canned water brand released an iced tea/lemonade drink called the “Armless Palmer” — a drink already known as the “Arnold Palmer” — it was immediately met with outrage, and the Arnold Palmer estate promptly threatened to sue. But Liquid Death was not prepared to fight, so it rebranded instead, and captured notable attention in doing so. The brand took to Instagram to [announce it was changing the name]( of its drink to “Dead Billionaire” in order to avoid a legal battle with a large enterprise, which received approval from fans who don’t mind its pettiness, but also saw comments of the marketing move being in poor taste. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen brands go to war over copycat products (although this one never officially began), with [M&S suing Aldi in 2021]( when the supermarket launched its own version of the Colin the Caterpillar cake, which resulted in over 400k engagements to media coverage about the feud. Comparably, Liquid Death has received nearly no media coverage about the matter, but its social post clearly resonated with audiences online, earning 52.5k engagements on its own. Spotify, wrapped It’s the day we’ve all been waiting for — when Spotify cutely tells you how much it tracks your consuming habits by showing you the songs you listened to most throughout the year! Wrapped went live this morning in the US, and there has been plenty of interest from both the media and public already, with thousands of articles and interactions. Unsurprisingly, while it did move the needle with the media, the most interaction has come on social media, as Spotify Wrapped is quite literally designed to be easily shared across social platforms. [Pubity]( and [Pop Crave]( have both had posts with tens of thousands of engagements on Instagram and X respectively. One fun gimmick coming out of the Wrapped sharing is people doing altered text on the Spotify background, exemplified by the [Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation](. We’d expect to see several more of these over the next few days until people get tired of it again.
