We're featuring a new trend in fun flavor combos, as well as looking at Duolingo's continued tomfoolery [View this email in your browser]( Fake flavors trend for Lay’s It’s summertime and the possibilities are endless, at least when it comes to flavor combinations. The summer is traditionally ripe for brands to launch fruity flavors and cocktails, sometimes bringing in celebrity endorsements as part of those launches.  But one brand in particular has caught the eye for a playful take on new flavors — pitching deliberately and explicitly fake products. Lay’s has been having fun with this on Instagram for the last few weeks, proposing fake flavor combos to its highly-engaged audience on Instagram, with recent examples including [French Toast & Mimosa]( and [Chili Mango](. While other brands are yet to jump on the trend in a big way, it’s something that has seen huge success for Lay’s — comments on the posts are filled with fans begging for Lays to put many of the fake flavors on the shelves, but at least for now it remains a very clever joke, and a clear driver of audience engagement. Duolingo reigns as bird king More and more brands are trying their hand at a humorous social media strategy, and often they fall short of getting it right — but Duolingo continues to come out on top. The language-learning app has been embracing the use of playful social content for years, from witty comments to self-deprecating posts, and its recent response to the “death” of the Twitter bird logo had social media users captivated by its familiar unhinged commentary. This resulted in the brand having one of the most engaged tweets on July 24th, earning hundreds of thousands of engagements. Duolingo has also found success on TikTok, where its mascot Duo continues to insert itself into internet culture. From attending the [Barbie red carpet]( to showing off its outfit for the [Taylor Swift Era’s tour]( this type of social strategy is clearly driving engagement for the brand, and it’s no accident.
