Giving Gen Z what they want
Hi there,
As the year winds down, it's time to look ahead to new trends and changing audience behaviors.
This week, we expanded on our analysis of [Gen Z audiences]( and looked at the YouTube, Snapchat, and Instagram trends that captivate the younger generation.
Gen Z is changing both social media and how we consume content.
This can oftentimes seem inexplicable to the older generations, who may wonder why Gen Z is creating Instagram accounts that just post the same picture over and over.
BBC News took it even further, in their [year-long pursuit]( of understanding Gen Z. Here's what they found for reaching younger readers:
1. Give context at the point audiences might need it
2. Anticipate questions and answer them â avoid the need to âGoogleâ
3. Give more entry points to developing / long-running stories
4. Keep it simple
5. Trust and quality journalism really matter
6. Offer a range of perspectives
7. Be relevant and useful
8. Give the option to âsubscribeâ to storylines
9. Think about your story selection and solutions
Creating content for Gen Z means meeting them where they are, and understanding why theyâre on each social platform.

The top stories of the week
Using our [NewsWhip Spike]( platform, we ranked the stories that drove the most Facebook engagements.
The passing of George H.W. Bush was the most engaging topic this week, with articles reporting on his passing, his services and memorial, and his legacy.
We've written before on how these events tend to spur a lot of attention on social media, as people share their thoughts and memories of the departed.
Other engaging stories this week were about a massive earthquake in Alaska, Tumblr's ban on adult content, whether 'Friends' was leaving Netflix, Oregon possibly legalizing mushrooms, and holiday-related articles.
