[View Online]( ) GPT-4o is giving people 'Her' vibes OpenAI launched a major update to its GPT offering this week, with Monday's debut of GPT 4-o, which gives users greater ability to interact with the world around them. This led to a big spike in coverage for the tech, as well as a rise in public interest. Almost 6k articles have been written since Monday, with the vast majority being about the recent launch. But what did people actually say about the launch? Well, it was a mixed bag. While some were clearly very impressed with the demo of the new tech, some seemed to feel a sense of eeriness at the announcement. Both [The Verge's coverage on TikTok](https://) (among the platform's most engaged posts) and a [high scoring post on Reddit]( discussed the technology in the context of the 2013 movie, in which a character played by Joaquin Phoenix falls in love with an AI assistant. This was always going to be a struggle that artificial intelligence faced as it developed further, with conversations already sprouting about [responsible use of AI]( off the back of the launch. OpenAI and other developers are likely to run into more of this kind of analysis as the technology continues to advance. Target has a different plan for Pride 2024 It’s been nearly one year since Target became yet another brand caught in the “woke’ crossfire after facing backlash and boycotts over its Pride Month collection. Acknowledging the impact the issue had on both its sales and employees, the retailer is taking extra steps in 2024 to ensure it doesn’t end up in the hot seat again. But that’s easier said than done. In an [announcement]( last week Target said it would only be selling Pride merchandise in select stores based on "historical sales performance", although customers can access the whole collection on its website. These changes have certainly grabbed the media and public's attention, but the reaction doesn't seem to appear less negative. [CNN](, [The Hill](, and several local media outlets around the country have been responsible for the top articles about Target's plans, but it's a few conservative voices on social media that have made it clear these changes are not enough to remove the retailer from the culture wars. This is highlighted in posts from [Liz Wheeler]( and [Charlie Kirk]( on X, both of which received over 2k engagements. On the opposite end, Target's decision has also resulted in criticism from the Human Rights Campaign, with the advocacy group stating that making these changes "risks alienating LGBTQ+ individuals and allies." This move is just one example we might see in the coming month of how companies need to pay close attention to how they serve their customers.
