Plus, Duolingo's April Fools' Day fun [View this email in your browser]( Inflation concerns resonate with the public again in Q1 Now that Q1 is over, we took a look back at one of the big topics of the last few months to see how it compared to Q4 of last year. While recent reports and the Federal Reserve’s actions in the US hint that it is becoming somewhat less of a concern for the powers that be, it’s something that is still clearly resonating with the general public. Engagement actually grew with coverage about inflation in Q1 compared to Q4 of 2023, with more than 1.71M engagements to that content compared to 1.51M in Q4 — a rise of more than 13%. And this rise came despite a slight decline in interest from the media, with 114k articles written in Q1 compared to 122k in Q4 2023. In terms of the top coverage, it was focused on [Carrefour dropping PepsiCo products]( due to cost in France, and a [Guardian article]( that covered a report that a “half of recent US inflation is due to high corporate profits.” Duolingo has some April Fools’ Day fun The Duolingo team is widely recognized as one of the most adventurous social accounts out there. If you expected them to miss an opportunity to jump into April Fools’ Day with anything less than both feet, you clearly haven’t been paying attention. The brand advertised a four-hour ‘Duolingo on ice’ musical as its [TikTok-native prank]( and the post received more than 2 million engagements. While it’s certainly not novel for brands to embrace April Fools Day, it’s the partnerships and the follow through that are probably the  most interesting here — with the brand going so far as to [create a SeatGeek landing page]( for the event, and then coupon codes to ‘apologize’ for the event being canceled for both Duolingo and SeatGeek. It shows the power of building community for brands, and the halo effect that can have on other brands through partnerships.
