Banned Books Week, the annual event that highlights the value of free and open access to information, is October 1-7, but you can use resources from NEA’s Read Across America throughout the year to call attention to every student’s right to theâ¯freedom to readâ¯books that are as diverse and complex as the society in which we live. Right now, the most frequently banned books include characters of color or LGBTQ+ people. And yet, these are books that kids are asking for.
