Urge them to vote NO on H.R. 734 [View as Webpage]( [National Education Association]( [EdAction]( {NAME}, As an educator for more than 30 years, I have seen how sports can play a critical role in student learning and development. Sports teach our children about teamwork, give them a sense of belonging and confidence, and show them how to persevere through adversity. All students should have the opportunity to participate fully in sports, but some politicians seek to exclude some students based on their gender identity with a bill called H.R. 734. The House is voting this week. [Urge your representative to oppose H.R. 734 today.]( Let us be clear: H.R. 734 does not protect girls and women in sports. It does not provide equity in resources, funding, or opportunity, and does nothing to address the sexual abuse of student athletes and subsequent cover-ups that have occurred in women’s sports. Its impact can damage a transgender student's emotional and mental health and subject students, whether or not they are transgender, to invasions of privacy. By calling on Congress to oppose H.R. 734, we can help make sure students have the freedom to be themselves, pursue their dreams, and feel welcomed at school—no matter their race, background, sexual orientation, or gender identity. [EMAIL YOUR HOUSE REP ➤]( Our representatives should be focusing on student safety with solutions like enacting common sense gun laws and increasing public school funding and resources. Instead, they want to hold onto power by denying us the basic rights, resources, and respect all people deserve while exploiting divisions and fears among us. We owe it to our students to make this a country where they all feel safe, welcome, and supported in their school community. [Contact your representative and tell them to vote NO on H.R. 734 today.]( Until justice is real, Becky Pringle President National Education Association [fb]( [tw]( [in]( [NEA - National Education Association]( Help us tailor our emails to you [Are You An Educator? ➤]( You received this email at {EMAIL} because you are signed up for NEA EdAction, online and in‑person actions to build great public schools for every student.
