We understand that this holiday is hard for some, so please skip this email if you prefer. Happy Mother’s Day, {NAME}! Mother’s Day was always my own mother’s favorite holiday. For her, it meant the start of the growing season, and from the time I was little, my mother had us spend all of Mother’s Day weekend planting pansies and annuals to fill our flower beds. Now, as a grown woman with grown children of my own, I cannot see a pansy without thinking of my mom, and how lucky I was to have her in my life. My mother was a teacher who took time off to raise my brother and me. When she went back to work, she started a business with my stepfather, and I grew up answering the business phone that rang at the house and the office. She taught me the value of hard work, that one should always try one’s best, and that sometimes the most important thing is to show up. With my own kids, one of my favorite traditions on Mother's Day was having them make me breakfast in bed. I have many fond memories of them carrying a breakfast tray up from the kitchen, loaded with fresh pancakes, muffins, or scones, and often a small vase with an azalea sprig from the garden, then curling up with them to eat breakfast together on the bed, a glorious break from the usual rules and routine. Being a mom has been one of the great privileges of my life, watching and helping my kids grow into responsible, caring adults. My own mother was an amazing role model for me, as a mother, teacher, and community leader. So today, and every day, let's honor and uplift the mothers in our lives.
