What Holds Your Trading Back? Hello Trader, The first task that you hav

What Holds Your Trading Back? Hello Trader,                The first task that you have to master is YOU. You have to own that you are causing the problems you are experiencing in trading. And, particularly, when you notice a problem that keeps repeating itself despite your best efforts, you are looking at an implicit (subconscious) belief that is driving an instinctual learned pattern of emotion and behavior embedded in neurocircuitry as an automatic response to a perceived threat or opportunity. Unfortunately, the belief and attending emotional pattern have become so familiar that you do not notice them triggering and taking over your trading mind. These automatic reflexes are not obvious to your Thinking Brain. That is why they go undetected despite the carnage, or money left on the table – and why they keep repeating themselves. Traders, being human, try to fix the trading problem by working harder, pushing harder, using affirmations, visualizations, denial, positive self-talk, tapping – or whatever else is popular presently. The problem here is that the Thinking Brain is not involved…rather, it is the Emotional Brain (that I call the Caveman Brain). The Emotional Brain does not have a language like the Thinking Brain – so you are not aware of the presence of the survival instincts of the Emotional Brain. But you are aware of the outcomes of the emotional hijacking of your Thinking Brain when you are faced with risking capital to an uncertain future. Most traders stay stuck in this dilemma and, therefore, never taste the promise that trading can deliver. But what if you could look underneath the hood of your mind and learn how to see how the brain adapts you for survival? It is here where the success solutions for short-term survival solutions get wired into habits that later evolve into Life Patterns. It is these Life Patterns that are at the core of your repeating patterns and, no matter how hard you try, they keep your trading just a shadow of what it could be. Let’s take a look at how long-term self-limiting patterns get established and creep into your trading performances. The Beliefs that Bind You Tim is a trader who has over 20 years of trading experience - and it has been a roller coaster ride. He easily trades his way into 3-4-5 thousand dollars of profits during a trading day. The problem is that when he starts making good money, he runs into a brick wall and then loses a chunk of his profits. He doesn’t blow his accounts up, but he does wound them seriously. And he is a profitable trader. If he were able to solve this problem, he would be much more profitable and live a very different lifestyle.  What’s easy to see about this case is that Tim has a problem with winning. He starts winning, sees his account really start growing, and he gets euphoric or feels great about his prospects. This is the surface of the problem. Yes. His euphoria leads to over-confidence. And over-confidence makes him feel large-and-in-charge, which leads to bone-head trading decisions. Euphoria is fueled by the neurotransmitter dopamine and its reward chemistry. It also has the brain believing that the good times are going to roll on forever – which takes Tim way out of the Traders State Of Mind needed for a disciplined impartial state needed for success in trading.  But this is just the surface of the problem. This pattern has been following him around for his entire life. You see, he was born into poverty. His family had a rough time surviving. There frequently did not have hot water and most of the time other essential systems and appliances needed to run a household were either missing or broken. The big key, in this poverty mindset, is that when money did show up, the family got excited and they went out and spent the windfall, feeling really good for the moment. And then it was gone – and they fell back into the treadmill of poverty again. They came to believe that they would never make it, no matter how hard they struggled. Every time they escaped poverty, even for a day, it would come back and pull them back into poverty again. Tim, as an extension of this group-think, came to believe that every time he escaped the poverty of his youth, it would catch him just as he felt the exhilaration of finally living out of poverty. This is his limbic implicit belief. On a conscious level, Time had no idea why he kept sabotaging himself just when he was making good money. It was a mystery to him. But, this is how a Life Pattern works. It is so familiar, so ordinary, you cannot sense that it is part of you - and that it is creating your life.    Now, go back and look at the collapse of the Traders State of Mind when Tim won. He can’t just correct the problem by looking at the symptom. His symptom was “getting too excited to maintain mindset when winning and making good money”. The belief that the good life was going to be taken away from him was also inadequate to really frame this situation for him for real change. It is his limbic pattern that drives the show. And if he just tries to solve the problem by chanting a few affirmations, doing a few visualizations, and using positive self-talk, he is going to get hit by the tidal wave of the Life Pattern that is set to pull him time back into poverty (familiar pattern) just at the moment when he feels like he is escaping the familiar pattern. This is how Limbic learning works. It is not thinking. It is reactive emotions triggering when change occurs (getting out of poverty) that pull him back into the structure of the familiar pattern of poverty (subsistence trading).  Whatever It Takes Is What It Takes People really don’t like facing their fears, particularly when shame is involved. Yet, trading success is about self-mastery. Tim was ashamed of his past. He would never talk about where he came from. It was embarrassing for him. And he thought he had escaped his past. After all, he was a consistently profitable trader who made a modest living. Yet, every time he moved past the threshold of poverty to where he could see a very different financial future for himself, the pattern grabbed him and pulled him down again. Modest profitability was his poverty line.  He had worked so hard to get past it. But every time he crossed the imaginary line, the pattern triggered and sucked him back down the rabbit hole. The self-limiting Life Pattern was always there – he had just learned to be blind to it. The excitement of the momentary escape from subsistence living triggered the implicit pattern to reassert itself. And that then brought him back into the familiar hopelessness and despair of not being able to escape what appeared to be his destiny. For Tim, what it took was the courage (no matter what) of facing his fear of powerlessness (poverty). That was a great leap forward. Then, coming to a new radically different understanding of shame gave him the tools to develop the self-mastery to move beyond his scarcity thinking. Shame, it turns out from an Emotional Intelligence perspective, is viewed as a tool for change. Shame tells you that the current way the Self is organized is not working for the good of the whole Self – and it needs you to reorganize the potential of the Self. And shame, as an organizing emotion, starts the process of change by disorganizing the construction of the Self – so that a new organization of the Self can be then constructed.  He began using the tool and power of shame to deconstruct the Life Pattern of poverty and scarcity thinking, so that when he started winning, he did not get excited like a kid in a candy shop. Winning became something very different. Winning became a warning sign to become intensely vigilant. By staying vigilant to the emergence of the self-limiting Life Pattern, he was able to stay in a disciplined and impartial mindset. After the trading day was over, he could then get excited. But what became very clear to Tim was that excitement was not his friend in trading. It was a sign that he needed to maintain the order of the Self that was focused on performing rather than winning. Shame had done its job because Tim had learned to face his fears and shame in a very different way. He knows it now as the path to self-mastery. What holds your trading back? Now is the time to begin traveling down your own path to self-mastery in trading. Description:   Think of the time and money you’ve spent in the hops of developing your knowledge of trading. Has it delivered success to you? Probably not. The real problem with your trading is YOU, the mind you bring to trading. That is the missing link. Waking up and recognizing that the problem with your trading is YOU is the sentinel moment. Are you prepared to master the fear that locks in, which repeats the same old patterns again and again? Living in a fairy tale, traders tell themselves they will become consistently profitable, until they muster up the courage to truly face their fears and master them. If you have woken up to this, come to this webinar. It will open your eyes. Developing Traders State of Mind Group Course - Spring, 2023 The emotional brain is built to seek safety in a dangerous world. The world that it was created for has long since disappeared. It developed a hair-trigger to the fight/flight response because that is what was needed for survival. Now, it has been taken out of the jungle (where risk meant danger) and is being asked to act civilized in a world of probability - where risk is not lethal. Without re-training and re-programming the emotional limbic system, this is not going to happen. It is built to react to danger quickly. It was never built to ponder your rules when it is experiencing vulnerability, discomfort, and fear. It was programmed to act from your survival instinct.  Until this is done, your emotional brain will continue to hijack your thinking brain when you feel the discomfort of uncertainty and risk. This is your silent partner. The question is: Are you going to try to continue to pretend it's not part of your trading mind? Or, are you ready to re-program it for the modern world of trading and probability. Fortunately, this can be done. The Developing Traders State of Mind Group Course Teaches You How to Master Reactive Emotions The Group Course has been called a wake-up call by many traders. Most simply have no idea how the brain and mind work to produce performance in the clutch with risk on. You learn here. It's more than a wake-up call - it a door that opens you to a whole new world. You learn how the emotional brain (so focused on survival) needs to be handled to become an effective working partner with the thinking brain. This course is eye-opening. I had no idea how to fix the problems I had with my trading until this course. Learning how to manage emotions is only the start. You learn how to create a mind built to manage uncertainty. Bottom line is that I know longer sabotage myself and have become profitable. I wish I had taken the group course a long time ago. It's a difference maker. SD From the start you learn how to calm survival emotions down before they become big and hijack your trading mind. That's just the first step. The major benefit is that you learn how to create a mind built for trading, rather than survival in the past. This is what has to happen for success in trading. You have been using a brain/mind created for circumstances that no longer exist. What is needed is a brain/mind built for probability management. Where you learn to become comfortable with the discomfort of uncertainty rather than triggering to your survival instinct. This is what every trader, to be successful, has to learn. All those who register now will be enrolled in the Spring 2023 Group Course, which has its 1st Group Meeting on March 30. Give yourself lots of time to study, and get started now! The survival Instinct is not going to just go away. It is your partner. Do you want to learn to work with it so that it helps you to become the trader you can be? Rande Howell, MEd., LPC If you know how to trade when not in the pressure of trading, but you have not been able to trade live from a calm, detached, and disciplined state of mind, this book will open your eyes. Mindful Trading actually shows you HOW to develop a peak performance state of mind specifically for trading. This book gets in the head of a trader. You will meet a number of real life traders who have overcome self doubt, fear, and impulsiveness. You will see how they overcame self-limiting beliefs and began trading from an empowered state of mind. You will discover your core beliefs that actually trade your system and methodology. And without change at this fundamental level, old self-limiting patterns of thought and belief re-assert themselves shortly after your brain pushes off any "tricks and tips" you learned from self-help seminars. It is this change at the organization of meaning and biology that makes this book so different. A number of disciplines are folded into a unified process that really gets at long term change. Those disciplines include neuro-biology, emotional intelligence, ontological reconstruction of the self, attachment theory and the meaning of the self, and Jungian archetypes. In Mindful Trading, imbedded in self-limiting beliefs, you are carried through a change process that transforms traders mired in mediocrity to a re-organization of the mind for peak performance trading. If you have recognized that it is you that stands in the way of your becoming a more successful trader, then this challenge can become an opportunity for re-invention of yourself as a trader, rather than something to avoid. It's like a door opening to an entirely new world. Great athletes recognize that the mental aspect of their game requires a performance coach for them to reach their potential. Trading is the same. Self-limiting beliefs have to be rooted out and changed - and a peak performance mindset has to be developed. It's all part of the training. Having a methodology that gives you an edge is not enough. You have to develop your mind so that it gives you the psychological edge to use your methodology and platform so that the uncertainty found in trading favors you. This is trading beyond fear. It is trading from a disciplined, impartial, patient, and courageous state of mind. Without emotional regulation training, this can take years (if ever) to achieve on your own. Teasing apart uncertainty from fear is simply something that the brain will not do on its own. The psychology to this has to be developed...or you stay stuck in the same old self-fulfilling prophesies of mediocrity.
