Your Hidden Beliefs About Money Sabotage Your Trading Mindset Hello Trader,                At some moment, traders come to the edge of their technical skill sets – and find that it hasn’t been enough to get them to the promised land – financial independence. There is something missing. And it is something they have been steadfastly ignoring. What they do not want to see is the journey into the final frontier of successful trading – the psychology of money. The dream of trading is that it can provide the money to set you free. And it is true, trading can do this. The problem is that traders seek a quick fix to a problem that is rooted in antiquity. Our emotional brain (aka Caveman Brain) forms learnings (implicit beliefs that you don’t know about) that become the beliefs that drive your performance under the stress of Uncertainty. Of particular interest are those beliefs that you hold about money.   Your Inner Caveman does not know about money. It didn’t exist when your Caveman Brain was formed. But survival in a dangerous world did exist. Over time, the abstract of money became a symbolic representation of power. The power to prevail (win), safety (fending off predators), and status (who governed or who had first access to breeding) were the sole concerns of the Caveman Brain. Money, as a symbol, became a symbolic presentation of the power to survive.   If a trade has ever gone against you and you fought back (because you hate to lose), you have experienced this primitive survival instinct for survival. To your Emotional or Caveman Brain, you were truly fighting for your life. To the trader that you aspire to be, you might have only experienced a small loss on the path to becoming a winning trader. To the modern trading mind, losing well is part of a solid trading psychology. But to your Caveman Brain, losing means you are about to become someone’s meal…losing is death. This is the dilemma for the trader. One part of your brain, the Emotional Brain, seeks the certainty of survival (success) and will fight to not lose. Another part of your brain, the modern Thinking Brain, looks at winning as probability and risk management. Losses are a natural part of the management of Uncertainty. The problem is that, when your Emotional Brain is confronted with perceived impending doom, it will hijack the probability mindset that the Thinking Brain brings to trading, because the Emotional Brain believes it is being threatened with its life. It All Comes Down to Your Beliefs about Money. Remember, money is not just money; it is also a representation of your perceived power to survive. (Caveman doesn’t know about money, only the power to survive.) This power to survive is rooted in four emotional beliefs that are below your conscious threshold. 1)    Am I powerful enough to survive so that I matter? 2)    Am I deserving – do I deserve the power to survive? 3)    Am I good enough to survive? 4)    If I have money (power) will someone love me? These core beliefs are always being projected onto the markets by traders. And your trading account is always holding a mirror in front of you and showing you whether you have the skillsets to manage uncertainty and become consistently profitable.
