Take a look at our daily deep dive on variable fonts penned by Monotype Type Director, Charles Nix. [Shop ALL Variable Font Deals]( The Future is Variable By now you’ve probably seen Variable fonts in use. Those squishy, jumping, bouncing animated words have been all over our social-media feeds, drawing our attention to words and headlines, commanding attention. Though animation is the main way most of us have encountered Variable fonts over the last couple of years, it’s just the tip of the iceberg of what’s possible with this dynamic new font functionality. But what is a Variable font? At its heart, a Variable font is every possible style of a typeface rolled into one font file. Instead of a dozen or five dozen individual font files, we get one font file with all of those files baked into it. But even that is a little bit misleading (in a good way): a Variable font file contains all of the styles we normally associate with fonts—like variations in weight, for instance—but it also contains the entire spectrum of space in between. So, it’s one font file with all of the usual type styles and every possible shade you could ever want. And since the Variable font is a spectrum of possibilities, clever designers that we are, we quickly realized that a spectrum can be blended and animated. Hence the bouncing, flexing fonts all over the place. And it’s not just the weight that can flex. Some variable fonts have a spectrum of widths too. And there’s more, it’s possible for type designers to add any number of custom axes (spectrums of variation) to a font. This has led to even more experimentation and expression: axes of shadow, of shine, of emotion, axes for the weather and time of day, and on and on and on. It's an exciting new feature for fonts and an exciting new future for typography. Stay tuned as we take a deeper dive into Variable this week at MyFonts. [Cotford Variable]( Cotford Variable by Monotype New from the Monotype Studio, Cotford is a contemporary serif from Creative Type Director, Tom Foley. Dynamic, adaptable, and surprising—Cotford is a languid serif that ranges from delicate thins, bending and reaching like flower stems, to bold heavy weights that command the page and screen with confidence and vintage charm. And as a variable font, Cotford allows designers to explore and refine the design almost endlessly, unearthing its many visual tones and hidden secrets. Foley set out to design a soulful, contemporary serif typeface that delivers all the versatility and robustness today's designers expect. The variable font unlocks an expandsive spectrum of visual expression that allows designers to explore, tweak, and adjust the typeface until they find the perfect weight, contrast, and optical size for their project. At the same time, Cotford’s static weights follow a traditional model of 3 text and 5 display weights, making it a strong choice for brands looking for simple implementation. 2 Variables 50% off - $359 $179.50 [Shop Here]( [Chipen]( Chipen [Shop Here]( 4 fonts + 1 Variable 50% off - for $21 $10.50 [Cocogoose]( Cocogoose [Shop Here]( 25 fonts + 2 Variables 50% off - for $195 $97.50 [Finalist Round Slab Variable]( Finalist Round Slab Variable [Shop Here]( 1 Variable 50% off - for $99 $49.50 [Zolina]( Zolina [Shop Here]( 9 fonts + 1 Variable 50% off - for $25 $12.50 [Homade]( Homade [Shop Here]( 10 fonts + 2 Variables 50% off - for $119 $59.50 [Rische]( Rische [Shop Here]( 5 fonts + 1 Variable 50% off - for $24 $12 [Goldbill]( Goldbill by Wahyu and Sani Co. Goldbill is modern sans serif typeface which designed based on geometric shapes. It is not just another geometric typeface, the uppercase letters were designed to have more squared form instead of circular and the lowercase retain the circular looks. It was designed with 2 axes variable; x-height and weight that generates 54 fonts with 3 different x-heights and 9 different weights. The basic version of Goldbill is the best for text, while the Goldbill XS with the narrowest x-height is ideal for display text, logo, etc, and the one with the largest x-height, Goldbill XL would be good for heading, shorter paragraph text or web font. Goldbill type family with its 3 different x-heights would be a great type system for any modern graphic design and typographic work. 54 fonts + 2 Variables 50% off - $239.99 $120 [Shop Here]( [Waialua]( Waialua [Shop Here]( 6 fonts + 1 Variable 50% off - for $69.99 $35 [LOUIS felligri]( LOUIS felligri [Shop Here]( 14 fonts + 1 Variable 50% off - for $70 $35 [Concasse]( Concasse [Shop Here]( 10 fonts + 1 Variable 50% off - for $69.90 $34.95 [Cubest]( Cubest [Shop Here]( 7 fonts + 1 Variable 50% off - for $59 $29.50 [Cantilever]( Cantilever [Shop Here]( 25 fonts + 1 Variable 50% off - for $130 $65 [Codeworld]( Codeworld [Shop Here]( 10 fonts + 1 Variable 50% off - for $150 $75 [Neue Metana]( Neue Metana by Dirtyline Studio Neue Metana is a modern minimalist design typeface with geometric style and more features like alternative characters and some ligatures. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
