The MyFonts team has reached out to many of you and asked how we could make MyFonts a better place to purchase fonts. We learned a lot! The overwhelming majority of you said that you wanted MyFonts to have deeper and richer typographic content. We get that – so here’s what to expect. We are launching fy{T}i, also known as “for your typographic information”– an informational and educational resource to help you know more about typefaces, fonts and how to use them well. We’ll be sending fy{T}i modules to you a couple of times a month on Mondays. To begin with, you can look forward to receiving Typeface Field Guides, Typographic Desk Reference and Type Trends updates. Typeface Field Guides [Field Guide] Typeface Field Guides are single-page modules that address the most commonly asked questions about typefaces and their use. Each will be dedicated to an important typeface family. The modules will be sent to you as email documents, but will also be available as downloadable PDFs. In them, you learn: - The typeface's designer and style classification - What's available in the family - Important legibility factors of the design - Best practices for using the design - How to identify/recognize the typeface - Paiting recommendations - A brief hisotyr of the family - Interesting facts about the design - Alternative typeface choices Typographic Desk Reference [Typographic Desk Reference] Typographic Desk Reference is dedicated to important aspects of typographic communication. The modules will be concise, easy to read and loaded with illustrations. The series will quickly grow into a valuable reference source and typographic touchstone. Typical topics include: Bullets & Boxes, Type & Color, Word Spacing and Initial Letters. You’ll soon have a virtual cornucopia of typographic know-how. The first module provides guidelines for making smart font choices for digital environments. The Type Trends [Type Trends] The Type Trends modules are quarterly updates on what’s new, fresh and worth noting. They will provide insight into what’s happening and what’s about to happen in the world of fonts and type. Type designers and notable users of type will provide their insight and expertise into what they believe will be the short and long-term future of typeface and typographic design. Looking for advice on what will be typographically up-to-the-minute? Want to know which typefaces will ensure that your designs are fresh, stylish and hip? Type Trends is the place to look. We love your feedback so keep it coming and we plan on evolving the content over time.
