.TOP NEWS [German pistols: World War II trophies](
GunDigest
Classic guns must have either jaw-dropping looks or a storied history. Ideally, they’ve got both, such as these German pistols of World War II vintage. Working in gun shops around Detroit, we used to have regular visitors of types you rarely see anymore. Once a week, a month or even a few days in a row, someone would walk in, holding a box or a case. [READ MORE]( [How the AR-15 changed the firearms world](
Shooting Illustrated
The film “Born on the Fourth of July” (1989) was an interesting take on the life of Ron Covic as played by Tom Cruise. In reality, during the same period depicted in the movie, America’s rifle — the AR-15 — was actually born on the Fourth of July, 1960 at the Hagerstown, MD, farm of Fairchild/ArmaLite President Richard Boutelle. It was at this festive picnic that Boutelle invited his good friend, USAF GEN Curtis E. LeMay (soon to be the Air Force Chief of Staff), to try his hand at shooting the company’s newest product: the AR-15 chambered in .223 Rem. [READ MORE]( SPONSORED VIDEO [Best Magazines for 6mm Arc?](

Shooting Times
Back in 1960, when the .22 Magnum rimfire round was introduced, a large part of its appeal was due to a simple claim. Namely, from a 6.5-inch revolver barrel, the standard 40-grain loading handily exceeded .22 LR velocities from a rifle barrel. This was gospel until the advent of lightweight-bullet, hyper-velocity .22 LR loads like the CCI Stinger made their appearance and altered the “velocity gap” considerably. At least it did until lightweight-bullet .22 Magnum loads appeared and the “gap” opened up again. [READ MORE]( PRODUCT SHOWCASE [Turnbull Finished Services](

Although we all appreciate the utility of polymer-framed 9 mm semi-automatic pistols and the highly decorated service history of the venerable 1911, sometimes a change of pace is in order. Just how much of a change depends on how far outside the box you’re willing to think. [READ MORE]( PRODUCT SHOWCASE [Feel Safe Anyplace with Byrna](

My shotgun slid sideways along the mesh wire fence that held the blind together. It was a slow morning, and the Benelli was propped against our makeshift hide of cedar boughs. I reached out to readjust the gun and, instead of setting it upright, clumsily scraped the barrel across six inches of the rusted wire. But when I rubbed my thumb over the scratch, I discovered it wasn’t a scratch at all — just a powdery residue from the fence that disappeared when I touched it. [To Restore, or Not to Restore?](
Turnbull Restoration Co. Inc.
That’s the foundational question that collectors and heirloom owners should ask when considering what could become a journey to revitalize, or perhaps even resurrect, a classic firearm. Turnbull Restoration Co. has helped its customers understand all the ins and outs of firearm restoration for over 30 years. In fact, it may surprise many how much restoration work the company actually declines. It’s because Turnbull knew from the beginning that helping with decision-making that’s right for the customer is what would be right for the company. [LEARN MORE]( [German G-Dated P.08 Luger Pistol by Mauser]( GI# 101579703 Description:
Serial #2845e, 9mm Para., 4 inch barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is an early “S/42" coded pistol with “G" chamber date code (1935) and all-matching numbers that retains 80-85% of the original blue finish with gray fading and light surface freckling along the projecting edges and mild silvering at the muzzle and bearing surfaces of the toggle and bolt. Additionally, there is a very small and unobtrusive import mark along the underside of the barrel and remnants of the original white filling are still present on the “GESICHERT" marking. Some further fading and freckling are present on the grip straps and exterior of the trigger guard bow and traces of the original straw color are still present on the take-down lever, trigger, magazine release, and safety; a greater amount of the straw remains on the ejector. The checkered wooden grips are not numbered and have light wear throughout with flattening of the points on either side, mainly around the butt, and some purposefully flattened points on the right panel in the shape of a “V" surmounting a swastika (probably symbolizing “Victory over the Third Reich"). A single aluminum base magazine is included (numbered to a different gun) and the pistol rates very good plus-near fine condition overall. It’s a great example of an early pre-war, Mauser-produced Luger. FFL or C&R Curio/Relic: Yes
