[8 Best .22 Handgun Options Available Today]( [Share on Facebook]( on Twitter]( on Linkedin]( this article to a friend]( Digest
Like so many shooters, the very first handgun I ever fired was a .22 LR — my father's Smith & Wesson K-22 Masterpiece. Since that time, I've shot a wide variety of pistols chambered for a number of different cartridges, but when I'm looking to have low-cost fun at my backyard shooting range, you can bet my .22s will be there. [Arsenals and Armament: The Early Years of US Martial Pistols]( [Share on Facebook]( on Twitter]( on Linkedin]( this article to a friend]( Rifleman
Recent years saw the saga of military-handgun testing and evaluation enter news headlines across the country, as the U.S. military embarked on its Modular Handgun System program to replace the aging Beretta M9, in service since 1985. However, sidearm selection, while infrequent in American history, is not new, having a storied history dating back to numerous private-contract guns from the late 18th century to the Model 1805 Harpers Ferry pistol. [The .357 Magnum Part 2]( [Share on Facebook]( on Twitter]( on Linkedin]( this article to a friend]( Magazine
In the 1950s when the sixgun was still supreme among peace officers, there were many who asked for a less expensive .357 Magnum. The 1954 result was the Highway Patrolman. It was offered only in 4 and 6" versions and without the beautiful Bright Blue finish found on the original model, nor checkered top strap and barrel rib. These matte-blue sixguns were designed for heavy-duty use without worrying about the finish. [READ MORE](

Now, I will tell you honestly that after 3,000 rounds of ole' Elmer's Special, I almost sent the Ruger New Vaquero packing back to the factory, but I have to say that I'm glad I didn't. [READ MORE](
[Review: Holland & Holland Takedown Magazine Rifle]( [Share on Facebook]( on Twitter]( on Linkedin]( this article to a friend]( Times
Unlike most of the dangerous-game cartridges of the era, Holland & Holland's .375 H&H Magnum was designed for bolt-action rifles. This was 1912, still pre-World War I, when the United Kingdom and Germany were on amicable terms. Paul Mauser's turnbolt was being hailed as the greatest development in sporting and military rifle technology, and H&H chose to use K98s modified to accept and function with the long magnum cartridge. [Review: Remington V3 TAC-13]( [Share on Facebook]( on Twitter]( on Linkedin]( this article to a friend]( & Ammo
Remington's V3 Tac-13 is a unique exception. To start, the V3's dual-piston gas block is mounted in front of the receiver. According to Remington, positioning the gas block directly ahead of the receiver helps to improve reliability. Gas pressures close to the chamber are consistent and the gas burns cleanly. With the gas block mounted so close to the receiver, shortening the barrel of the V3 didn't require a complete overhaul of the gas system. [READ MORE](

[Oberndorf Mauser Type S 7x57]( [Share on Facebook]( on Twitter]( on Linkedin]( this article to a friend]( International
GI# 101186691
Description: Mauser Oberndorf Type S 7x57 built on a 1912 Commercial Mauser sporting action. This gun came out of New Zealand and was originally an 8x60 with a bad barrel. It was rebarreled with a Pacnor barrel contoured to the exact profile of the original. Barrel is 20 inches. Bore as new. Ramp front sight and standing rear sight. Standard round top reciever with claw bases and newly manufactured claw rings with a Leupold M8 4x scope with duplex. Double set triggers and lever release floorplate. All matching Mauser serial numbers including small parts. Original stock refinished with a shadow line added to the cheekpiece and an ebony grip cap. 14 1/8" LOP over a Decelerator pad. 7lb 8oz as scoped. This vintage piece completely restored by Dave Caboth of Alta, Iowa and former instructor at the Colorado School of Trades. A light weight and extremely usable rifle in a great caliber. Interesting to me that this Type S forend does not reach the end of the barrel as most commonly seen. Also interesting that a 1912 action was pulled from inventory to create the original 8x60 in 1920 or later, a caliber not created until after WW1 and the Treaty of Versailles which proscribed the manufacture of military calibers in Germany.
