[94bd244d-64c8-445b-9a3f-54c114ec422f.png] A cinematic feast Fresh from last year’s Berlinale, LĂȘ BĂĄÂșÂŁo’s debut Taste is our curator’s spotlight this month, along other festival highlights like the gripping Iranian drama Ballad of a White Cow, and a documentary set in a multicultural classroom with a charismatic teacher. Plus much more, only on MUBI. BACHMANN AND HIS CLASS Maria Speth NOW SHOWING Curator Spotlight As a good friend of mine often says, “There are two types of people in this world. The ones who eat to live and those who live to eat”—I am definitely in the second category. The only thing as important as cinema in my life is food, and Taste is a delicious combination of both that will leave your mouth-watering more than any episodes of 'The Great British Bake Off' or 'Selena + Chef'. I could enjoy a slice of this film every day. The enticing food prepared inTaste (please give me some of these buns) is a reflection of the skill and craftsmanship of director LĂȘ BĂĄÂșÂŁo. The film is a simple combination of great quality ingredients prepared with a lot of modesty and simplicity but treated with so much care and love that it achieves greatness. The setup is incredibly elementary but the photography and its composition are jaw-dropping. Additionally, the film creates an immediate sense of trust by having very little chatter. It makes you feel like you are in the presence of an old friend that you have not seen for a while but very few words are necessary to express how you are feeling. Preparing food is a gesture of love and can have an incredible level of eroticism. I have always associated rising bread dough with the shape of a full belly. In Taste, this parallel between ingredients being prepared and bodies being washed and caressed is clear. The pleasure is increased by the fact that LĂȘ BĂĄÂșÂŁo chose to sexualize, with a lot of devotion, the bodies of three middle-aged women, which I must say is extremely refreshing and brings a flavor too rarely used. Within the impressive tranquility of the film, watching these hairs being combed, the massage of a foot in closeup, and a good scratch on the back alternating with sequences of cooking very quickly puts you in a state of intense sensuality. The pleasure given to the eyes, the body, and the taste buds are almost like a trans-sensorial experience that should be prescribed to everyone who is looking for a nice meal, warm hug, or great film. — AnaĂŻs Lebrun, VP of Content 6eb99d7f-321e-4dfe-b2c2-a8ebf5237ee7.png [e8344b65-97b1-4509-ad86-d1ff0a6ac6c0.png]( [80c23f8a-4173-484d-86e8-88f1dbc6f886.png]( [6f3c5351-5db7-4814-8ad0-72a206ca03a6.png]( You are receiving this email because you registered a MUBI user account. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
