He is part of a generation of young directors that we followed from the very beginning. We gave his films a space on MUBI because we believed that with his films we were facing a strong directorial vision. Early in 2017, LE PARC, which was his second feature and had premiered in Cannes a few months earlier, was our first-ever Special Discovery. Our Special Discovery series was dedicated to small but unique films that were barely distributed internationally and that we wanted the world to discover. These films, orphaned in a way, would represent the quality and strength of MUBI’s curation. The same year that LE PARC showed on MUBI, Manivel surprised us again with the intensity of the sweetness of his third film, THE NIGHT I SWAM, which we later also premiered online. Encountering it felt like a special treat, a reunion with an old friend. Now, we’re showing his latest work. From the first minutes of ISADORA’S CHILDREN, it was clear that Manivel’s style has blossomed into something as warm and comforting as the embracing arms of a mother—but also something as strong as a woman's arms that carry your body all day long. His interpretations by four women of Isadora Duncan’s dance “Mother” push the audience to encounter this incredible figure and pioneer of modern dance, but also activates the long relationship between cinema and dance, both originating as a series of movements in time. The soothing voice of Agathe Bonitzer guides us through the words of Isadora and gives to the screen an embodiment of Duncan’s suffering and her profound love for her lost children. Across three stories of dance and sorrow, Isadora’s Children gives us the opportunity to discover the emotional depth of movement, and how, through its repetition, can come a new creation." — Anaïs Lebrun, Director of Content - International 6eb99d7f-321e-4dfe-b2c2-a8ebf5237ee7.png [e8344b65-97b1-4509-ad86-d1ff0a6ac6c0.png]( [80c23f8a-4173-484d-86e8-88f1dbc6f886.png]( [6f3c5351-5db7-4814-8ad0-72a206ca03a6.png]( [d7ee884a-908c-42f6-801b-98e853974a35.png]() You are receiving this email because you registered a MUBI user account. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
