--------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive ----

[MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] [width="1"] --------------------------------------------------------------- We Play Fallout Precons | Commander Clash S16 E8 --------------------------------------------------------------- The crew checks out the new Fallout Commander precons![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Trickbind](Spiral/Trickbind#paper) [Counterbalance]( [The Deck of Many Things](in+the+Forgotten+Realms/The+Deck+of+Many+Things#paper) This week in Magic finance was fairly quiet with most of the biggest gainers coming from Modern. By%age, the single biggest gainer was [Trickbind](Spiral/Trickbind#paper) with the split second [Stifle]( gaining 47% to $25. The card has been showing up as a one-of in the sideboard of control decks in Modern, which combined with being from Time Spiral (a set more than 15 years old now) and having never been reprinted, has driven the price of the instant from just over $5 back in Febuary to $25 today. I'd look to dump my copies now. While there is some demand for [Trickbind](Spiral/Trickbind#paper), in reality there isn't that much. Its current price is more about its scarcity than anything - once it gets reprints (and pretty much everything will eventually reprinted) its price should drop back down towards $5. Plus there is the additional risk that literal [Stifle]( could be printed into Modern, which would more or less kill the demand for [Trickbind](Spiral/Trickbind#paper). Meanwhile in Modern, [Counterbalance](List/Counterbalance#paper) is on the rise, gaining 38% this week to almost $17. Thanks to the new surveil lands, people have been trying to make [Counterbalance](List/Counterbalance#paper) Miracles work in Modern with mixed success. This new interest has been enough to cause the price of the enchantment to shoot up. It has been as high as $45 in the past, but that was before it was reprinted on The List and in a Secret Lair drop, so the ceiling this time isn't as high. More importantly, I'm not convinced that [Counterbalance](List/Counterbalance#paper) is even good in Modern, even in the Miracles deck. While the risk here is probably less than [Trickbind](Spiral/Trickbind#paper) because of the recent pseudo-reprintings, I'd still look to sell my copies while prices are high. Finally in Commander, one of my favorite cards is on the rise: [The Deck of Many Things (extended)](in+the+Forgotten+Realms:Foil/The+Deck+of+Many+Things-extended#paper). After keeping dice rolling from black-bordered Magic for nearly 30 years, in just the last couple of years Wizards has fully embraced the mechanic, especially for Commander. Most recently they printed [Mr. House, President and CEO](Foil/Mr+House+President+and+CEO#paper) in the Fallout decks, which seems to be the catalyst for the current price increase, although there will likely be more dice rolling focused legends in the future. Currently [The Deck of Many Things (extended)](in+the+Forgotten+Realms:Foil/The+Deck+of+Many+Things-extended#paper) is around $3.50 after peaking at nearly $5, which combined with being a one-print mythic suggests it still could have room to grow. Just be warned that Dungeons and Dragons doesn't officially count as a Universes Beyond set since Wizards owns the IP, which means the contractual issues that may keep Wizards from reprinting some Universes Beyond cards don't exist for [The Deck of Many Things (extended)](in+the+Forgotten+Realms:Foil/The+Deck+of+Many+Things-extended#paper). This said, I wouldn't be surprised to see [The Deck of Many Things (extended)](in+the+Forgotten+Realms:Foil/The+Deck+of+Many+Things-extended#paper) continue to slowly rise as more dice rolling cards are printed, at least until the mythic artifact is eventually reprinted. --------------------------------------------------------------- Much Abrew: 68-Card Splendid Reclamation Landfall Combo (Standard) --------------------------------------------------------------- Today, we're playing one of the wildest (and maybe best?)
