[Preacher of the Schism](Caverns+of+Ixalan/Preacher+of+the+Schism#paper)
[Sunken Citadel](Caverns+of+Ixalan/Sunken+Citadel#paper) This week in the world of Magic finance the biggest winner was, once again, [Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor (extended)](Brothers+War/Gix+Yawgmoth+Praetor-extended#paper) with the black three-drop increasing a massive 200% to $40 after being as low as $6 just a couple of a weeks ago. We've seen in the not super distant past that mythics which are heavily played in Standard, Commander, and at least one non-rotating format can be extremely expensive - think about [The Great Henge](Masters:Foil/The+Great+Henge#paper) or [The Meathook Massacre](List/The+Meathook+Massacre#paper) - and Gix might just be the next card on this list. It's currently one of the most-played creatures in Standard, it's started showing up in Pioneer Mono-Black Aggro, and it works like black [Toski, Bearer of Secrets (showcase)](Bearer+of+Secrets-showcase#paper) in Commander. Add this all together and you have one very expensive card. Apparently it's a good week to be a black three-drop. The Lost Caverns of Ixalan rare [Preacher of the Schism (extended)](Caverns+of+Ixalan/Preacher+of+the+Schism-extended#paper) also jumped nearly 300% this week, although it's still around $6. The combination of big stats, deathtouch, and a powerful triggered ability has made [Preacher of the Schism (extended)](Caverns+of+Ixalan/Preacher+of+the+Schism-extended#paper) a bit of a sleeper, but now it's showing up in midrange decks in Standard alongside a couple of different Pioneer archetypes. This said, from a financial perspective, it's hard to see [Preacher of the Schism (extended)](Caverns+of+Ixalan/Preacher+of+the+Schism-extended#paper) getting much more expensive thanks to its limited Commander upside and the fact it is a rare rather than mythic like Gix. Speaking of sleepers, a quick shout out to one of my current favorite sleeper picks: [Sunken Citadel](Caverns+of+Ixalan/Sunken+Citadel#paper). Across Magic's history, lands that make two mana usually end up broken - see [Ancient Tomb](Masters/Ancient+Tomb#paper), [Eldrazi Temple](Masters/Eldrazi+Temple#paper), [Eye of Ugin](Masters+2015/Eye+of+Ugin#paper), and [City of Traitors](of+Traitors#paper) - and even though [Sunken Citadel](Caverns+of+Ixalan/Sunken+Citadel#paper) is narrow (only making two mana for the ability of lands), it's still a very powerful effect. So far players are just scratching the surface of what the card can do, playing it alongside cards like [Cabal Coffers](Horizons+2/Cabal+Coffers#paper) in Modern and [Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx](List/Nykthos+Shrine+to+Nyx#paper) in Pioneer, but I've also seen some weirder plans for the card, like using it to activate [The World Tree (planeswalker stamp)](World+Tree-planeswalker+stamp#paper) on the cheap. While it might take a while and reprinting is always a risk, considering it's currently less than $1.50, [Sunken Citadel](Caverns+of+Ixalan/Sunken+Citadel#paper) is the kind of card I want in my collection because it seems very possible that sooner or later someone breaks it and it shoots up towards $10. --------------------------------------------------------------- Top 5 Most Underrated Commanders From 2023
