--------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive ----

[MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] [width="1"] --------------------------------------------------------------- My Food Makes Rats - My Rats make Food | Brewer's Kitchen --------------------------------------------------------------- Brewer's Kitchen creates food that makes rats and rats that make food[Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Lord Skitter, Sewer King](of+Eldraine/Lord+Skitter+Sewer+King#paper) [Keeper of Secrets](40K+Commander+Decks/Keeper+of+Secrets#paper) [Misleading Signpost](of+Eldraine+Commander/Misleading+Signpost#paper) This week in the world of Magic finance, the biggest gainer in Standard is a Rat - [Lord Skitter, Sewer King (extended)](of+Eldraine/Lord+Skitter+Sewer+King-extended#paper) - which doubled in price from $1 to $2. While the three-drop has seen quite a bit of play in Standard ever since it released in Wilds of Eldraine, the reason for the big price increase this week is a Rat deck posted a winning record in a Modern Challenge on Magic Online and it was running a full playset of [Lord Skitter, Sewer King (extended)](of+Eldraine/Lord+Skitter+Sewer+King-extended#paper). While I'm not convinced that Rats are a real thing in Modern, I'm planning to play the deck for a video this week, so keep an eye out for that if you want to see the deck for yourself. In the meantime it is safe to say that [Lord Skitter, Sewer King (extended)](of+Eldraine/Lord+Skitter+Sewer+King-extended#paper) is trending up and should at least be pulled from your bulk. Meanwhile in Commander, the Warhammer 40k rare [Keeper of Secrets](40K+Commander+Decks/Keeper+of+Secrets#paper) is on the rise, doubling up from $4 to over $8 this week. The demon's ability to deal damage whenever you cast a spell from anywhere other than your hand works really well with the suspend theme of Doctor Who, making [Keeper of Secrets](40K+Commander+Decks/Keeper+of+Secrets#paper) an easy upgrade option for new legends like [The Tenth Doctor](Who:Foil/The+Tenth+Doctor#paper) and [The Twelfth Doctor](Who:Foil/The+Twelfth+Doctor#paper). From a more meta perspective, Warhammer cards in general have been creeping up. A complete set of Warhammer 40k bottomed out at $371 at the end of June and is now up to $460 - a 24% gain in just three months. Considering the difficulty of reprinting Universes Beyond cards due to Wizards not owning the IP, it seems possible that these cards are the next frontier in Magic finance, potentially offering good mid-term value. Last but not least we have the Wilds of Eldraine Commander mana rock [Misleading Signpost (extended)](of+Eldraine+Commander/Misleading+Signpost-extended#paper). After bottoming out at $2 right after the set release, the artifact has slowly climbed all the way up to $8, making it - by far - the most expensive card in the Fae Dominion Commander precon. Exactly why isn't clear: outside of showing up in the precon itself, EDHRec data doesn't suggest that [Misleading Signpost (extended)](of+Eldraine+Commander/Misleading+Signpost-extended#paper) is a staple in any deck. But in theory any blue deck can run it and everyone needs mana rocks, giving it plenty of potential homes. Right now the Fae Dominion precon is selling for around $33, which means it isn't worth picking up just for [Misleading Signpost (extended)](of+Eldraine+Commander/Misleading+Signpost-extended#paper), but if you do snag the precon, it's worth being aware of the fact that it is now the chase card of the deck and does have real value. --------------------------------------------------------------- Meme or Dream?
