--------------------------------------------------------------- Budget Magic: $100 Dredge ----------

[MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] [width="1"] --------------------------------------------------------------- Against the Odds: 36 Sheoldreds --------------------------------------------------------------- Today, we play Standard, but every single one of our cards is actually Sheoldred![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Budget Magic: $100 Dredge (Modern) --------------------------------------------------------------- 2Ejpg Sometimes, the best way a game of Magic on a $100 budget is by not really playing Magic at all. It's $100 Dredge time![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Overwhelming Splendor](of+Devastation/Overwhelming+Splendor#paper) [Radiate]( [Virtue of Loyalty](of+Eldraine/Virtue+of+Loyalty#paper) This week was a fairly quiet one in the world of Magic finance, although this is likely to change as Doctor Who spoilers kick off this week with Lost Caverns of Ixalan soon to follow. The biggest gainer this week was [Overwhelming Splendor](of+Devastation/Overwhelming+Splendor#paper) with the humbling curse creeping up 35% to nearly $7. The eight-drop has proven to be a popular addition to decks built around two new Wilds of Eldraine commanders in [Eriette of the Charmed Apple (borderless)](of+Eldraine/Eriette+of+the+Charmed+Apple-borderless#paper) and [Yenna, Redtooth Regent (planeswalker stamp)](of+Eldraine/Yenna+Redtooth+Regent-planeswalker+stamp#paper), which is a bit odd considering that [Humility]( itself is considered to be a salty card in Commander and in some ways [Overwhelming Splendor](of+Devastation/Overwhelming+Splendor#paper) is even worse since it only targets a single opponent. As a one-print mythic you might think that [Overwhelming Splendor](of+Devastation/Overwhelming+Splendor#paper) still has room to grow. After all, cards like [Torment of Hailfire](of+Devastation/Torment+of+Hailfire#paper) and [Razaketh, the Foulblooded](Masters/Razaketh+the+Foulblooded#paper) are mythics from the same set and worth much more than [Overwhelming Splendor](of+Devastation/Overwhelming+Splendor#paper). But my guess is the unwritten rules of Commander which discourage cards like [Overwhelming Splendor](of+Devastation/Overwhelming+Splendor#paper) put a fairly hard cap on its price. Speaking of Commander, the Torment rare [Radiate]( once again doubled in price this week - just a few weeks ago it was hovering near bulk rare status, today it's over $9 - thanks to its combo potential with [Imodane, the Pyrohammer (planeswalker stamp)](of+Eldraine/Imodane+the+Pyrohammer-planeswalker+stamp#paper). Since Imodane cares about damage being dealt by spells with a single target and [Radiate]( takes a single target spell and copies it for all permanents and players, something as simple as a [Lightning Bolt (showcase)](Legends+Battle+for+Baldurs+Gate/Lightning+Bolt-showcase#paper) can kill the entire table assuming there's a bunch of creatures on the battlefield. At $9 [Radiate]( isn't prohibitively expensive considering its unique effect, but if you're looking for a more budget friendly replacement Commander 2021's [Radiant Performer](2021/Radiant+Performer#paper) does essentially the same thing, but for $0.45. Finally in Standard it has been a good week for the Virtue cycle. [Virtue of Loyalty (showcase)](of+Eldraine:Foil/Virtue+of+Loyalty-showcase#paper) gained 30% to $12 as it finds its way into various Esper and token shells. [Virtue of Persistence](of+Eldraine:Foil/Virtue+of+Persistence#paper) - currently in a massive 37% of Standard decks - rose 14% to $15. Even the green Virtue, which was considered by many to be the worst of the cycle during spoiler season, saw a 22% increase to $6. While heavy Standard play is nice, the real question is whether any of these cards take off in Commander; right now they are seeing fringe play, but none are really staples. We've seen in the recent past that seeing heavy play in both Standard and Commander can lead to extremely high prices (see: [Sheoldred, the Apocalypse](United/Sheoldred+the+Apocalypse#paper), [The Meathook Massacre](Midnight+Hunt/The+Meathook+Massacre#paper), and [The Great Henge](Masters/The+Great+Henge#paper)). If [Virtue of Loyalty (showcase)](of+Eldraine:Foil/Virtue+of+Loyalty-showcase#paper) or [Virtue of Persistence](of+Eldraine:Foil/Virtue+of+Persistence#paper) develop into Commander staples, which is possible but probably not likely, the sky is the limit price-wise. If you need some copies, it might be worth snagging them just to be safe. --------------------------------------------------------------- Podcast 452: MagicCon Vegas 2023 --------------------------------------------------------------- The whole MTGGoldfish crew gets together to talk about their experience at MagicCon Vegas live from the Westgate Hotel in Las Vegas![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Single Scoop: Bard Class Got New Toys --------------------------------------------------------------- Bard Class got two new legendaries to add to the deck and one of them has always got something cooking! Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
