[MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] [width="1"] --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Knight-Errant of Eos](of+the+Machine/Knight-Errant+of+Eos#paper) [Sigarda, Font of Blessings](of+the+Machine+Aftermath/Sigarda+Font+of+Blessings#paper) [Nature's Chosen](Chosen#paper) This week in the world of Magic finance, the two biggest winners are Standard cards, but the reason for their massive price increases is Pioneer! Over the past few days, a new Boros Convoke deck has been the talk of Pioneer (if you want to see the archetype in action make sure to check out tomorrow's Budget Magic where we play a $100 budget build). One of the key cards in the deck is [Knight-Errant of Eos](of+the+Machine/Knight-Errant+of+Eos#paper), which jumped a massive 745% this week from $1 to nearly $7.50. It joins [Venerated Loxodon](of+the+Machine+Commander/Venerated+Loxodon#paper) as one of the two convoke creatures at the core of the deck. The deck also plays [Invasion of Gobakhan](of+the+Machine/Invasion+of+Gobakhan#paper) in the sideboard, which caused the battle to nearly triple up to $12. Rumors are that the deck is broken - literally Hogaak in Pioneer - and needs to be banned. While I'm not convinced this is true, it is worth keeping in mind if you are thinking about buying into the archetype. Considering that both cards are in print and, discounting the Aftermath debacle, is from Magic's newest set, I'd lean towards selling while prices are high unless you plan on building the deck yourself. Speaking of Aftermath, while most rares in the set are below $1, one card has started to climb this week: [Sigarda, Font of Blessings](of+the+Machine+Aftermath/Sigarda+Font+of+Blessings#paper) doubled up to $4. This is mostly because of Commander where the Angel is one of the most popular Aftermath cards to play in the 99 as a creature version of [Privileged Position (borderless)](Masters+2022/Privileged+Position-borderless#paper) with upsides in both Human and Angel-themed decks, although the [Angel tribe might have some potential in Standard after tomorrow's bannings](. After seeing Sigarda's rise, I think it might be time to pick up other cheap rares from Aftermath. Over the long term, the unpopularity of the set could make it easier for these cards to end up fairly expensive, especially the ones that end up catching on in Commander. In weirder news the Alliances uncommon [Nature's Chosen](Chosen#paper) was bought out this week, with the price spiking from $2 to $12 (although it is currently falling). Exactly why isn't clear. Some people think it's because it has never been reprinted and has Rebecca Guay art, which has been a topic of interest lately thanks to her recent Secret Lair drop. Others people claim it is new cEDH tech for untapping [Gaea's Cradle](Saga/Gaeas+Cradle#paper). Regardless, it's worth pulling from your bulk and selling or trading away why the hype is high, prices should continue to fall as supply re-enters the market post-buyout. --------------------------------------------------------------- The Worst Cards Ever Banned in Magic: the Gathering --------------------------------------------------------------- Normally Magic: the Gathering cards get banned because they are too powerful, but this isn't always the case.
