The seven mana reanimation spell had a great performance at last weekend's Pro Tour March of the Machine, being a key part in Nathan Steuer's first place Rakdos deck. Not far behind was another breakout card from the same deck - [Chandra, Hope's Beacon](of+the+Machine/Chandra+Hopes+Beacon#paper) - which saw a 47% increase to $6.79. While these numbers aren't huge in an absolute sense, combined with Wizards' new found focus on making paper Standard popular again, it does suggests that we might be re-entering a world where being a great Standard card and showing up at a paper Pro Tour can increase a card's price. While older formats and Commander will still drive the market, it seems like Standard might once again have a seat at the table at least. Speaking of Standard, this week was also the release of March of the Machine: Aftermath and so far the set is looking like a flop. Right now the most valuable card in the set is [Nissa, Resurgent Animist](of+the+Machine+Aftermath/Nissa+Resurgent+Animist#paper) at just under $15, two other mythics are above $10, and a single rare (the reprinted [Training Grounds](of+the+Machine+Aftermath/Training+Grounds#paper)) being worth more than $1.50. While the smallness of Aftermath certainly plays a role (the set has roughly half the number of rares and mythics as a normal set), compare this to March of the Machine proper which has three mythics worth at least $19.99 and five rares worth $5 or more. Based on value, it's impossible to justify cracking a box of Aftermath and doubly so considering Wizards decided to try to price it as a normal set (although prices of sealed boxes are dropping thanks to a lack of demand). The good news is that singles from the set are cheap, so if you need something to round out a deck, feel free to snag it. It's hard to imagine prices crashing a ton more just because they set is already so cheap. Finally in Pioneer, [Magma Opus (planeswalker stamp)](School+of+Mages/Magma+Opus-planeswalker+stamp#paper) is ticking up with the mythic gaining 35% on the week to just over $5. This is thanks to the increasing popularity of a new take on [Indomitable Creativity](Revolt/Indomitable+Creativity#paper) for Pioneer which looks to discard [Magma Opus (planeswalker stamp)](School+of+Mages/Magma+Opus-planeswalker+stamp#paper) to make a Treasure and then turn that Treasure into a [Torrential Gearhulk](Gearhulk#paper) with [Indomitable Creativity](Revolt/Indomitable+Creativity#paper) to flashback [Magma Opus (planeswalker stamp)](School+of+Mages/Magma+Opus-planeswalker+stamp#paper). While the plan has been lurking beneath the surface of the format for a while, it has just recently broken out, climbing the ranks to become a solid tier two Pioneer deck and surpassing the Temur [Indomitable Creativity](Revolt/Indomitable+Creativity#paper) deck was saw at Pro Tour Phyrexia a few months back. [Torrential Gearhulk](Gearhulk#paper) may be worth watching as well. The Construct is a four-of in the archetype and as a one-print mythic from an even older set than [Magma Opus (planeswalker stamp)](School+of+Mages/Magma+Opus-planeswalker+stamp#paper). It could start to rise from its current $2.67 price tag if the deck continues to stake its claim as a real archetype in Pioneer. --------------------------------------------------------------- Meme or Dream?
