- - --------------------------------------------------------------- Budget Magic: Is Lingering Souls

[MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] [width="1"] --------------------------------------------------------------- March of the Machine Previews --------------------------------------------------------------- of+the+Machine/Elesh+Norn#paper of+the+Machine/The+Argent+Etchings#paper of+the+Machine/Sword+of+Once+and+Future#paper of+the+Machine/City+on+Fire#paper of+the+Machine/Invasion+of+Alara#paper of+the+Machine/Awaken+the+Maelstrom#paper March of the Machine previews are officially underway, featuring the new "Battle" card type, double-faced Praetors, and the completion of the Sword of X and Y cycle! Be sure to check out all the previews at www.mtgpreviews.com. - [March of the Machine Spoilers — March 29 | Battles, Elesh Norn, UB Sword]( - [March of the Machine Spoilers — March 30 | Hidetsugu, Esika and more Battles!]( - [March of the Machine Spoilers — March 31 | Vorinclex, Sheoldred, Invasion of Alara]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Budget Magic: Is Lingering Souls Good in 2023? 15 Rare Black-White Tokens (Historic) --------------------------------------------------------------- 2BTokens-ce08d62f-5943-4e39-9155-bfaaf5d75871%2Ejpg Lingering Souls was a legit bomb back in 2012, but it is still good in 2023? Let's take a 15 rare budget build of WB Tokens out for a spin on MTG Arena and find out![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Soul Spike](Spike#paper) [Hallowed Moonlight](Origins/Hallowed+Moonlight#paper) [Koth, Fire of Resistance](Will+Be+One/Koth+Fire+of+Resistance#paper) This week was apparently Mono-Black Burn week in the world of Magic finance. You might remember that a couple of weeks ago we played a [Mono-Black Burn deck for Budget Magic](. In the weeks since, the archetype has taken off in Modern, with some updated versions posting 5-0 finishes in leagues. Well now it seems like the finance world is catching on as two key cards from the deck saw big price spikes this week. The biggest gainer was [Soul Spike](Spike#paper), which was bought out and is currently up over 1000% at around $14, although the price will likely stabilize once more supply hits the market. Not to be outdone, the black [Goblin Guide](Masters/Goblin+Guide#paper) [Sleeper Agent](List/Sleeper+Agent#paper) doubled in price to around $3.50. Whether the archetype has staying power remains to be seen, but for now Mono-Black Burn is the hottest new deck in Modern, and this week's price movement backs that up. Speaking of Modern, sideboard staple [Hallowed Moonlight](Origins/Hallowed+Moonlight#paper) is still climbing. Only a few months ago the instant was essentially a bulk rare. Today regular pack printings are pushing $6, with foils at $50 after ticking up another 22% this week. The bigger story here is that competitive paper Magic seems to be back. While Commander is still a dominant force, it's no longer the only game in town. With paper Pro Tours once again on the menu, there seems to be legitimate interest in new decks and cards for formats like Modern and Pioneer, which in turn is causing prices of hot tech cards and unique new staples to increase. With March of the Machine on the way, expect more changes in the near future as players figure out how to make use of the powerful new cards and explore the battle card type. Speaking of March of the Machine, I'm actually a bit surprised it hasn't had more of an impact on card prices. It might be that we are only a couple of days into spoiler season and the mass of new information has simply overwhelmed players and they don't know what they need to buy... yet. This should change as more of the set is revealed. In the meantime, take a look at the price chart for [Koth, Fire of Resistance](Will+Be+One/Koth+Fire+of+Resistance#paper). At this point in the release cycle for Phyrexia, the new planeswalker was around $15. Now it is $0.70, and this is true of most of the cards from the set. As such, be cautious preordering March of the Machine cards. For every [Ledger Shredder](of+New+Capenna/Ledger+Shredder#paper) that you end up wishing you bought early, there are twenty [Koth, Fire of Resistance](Will+Be+One/Koth+Fire+of+Resistance#paper)s where you are much better off waiting until after the set releases to snag what you need. It's really, really hard to predict which cards are underpriced during spoiler season - if it was easy everyone would have bought [Ledger Shredder](of+New+Capenna/Ledger+Shredder#paper) and we'd all be playing Magic on our new yachts. The safest plan is just to wait, because more than nine out of ten March of the Machine cards will be worth significantly less a month or two from now. --------------------------------------------------------------- Podcast 426: Is Elspeth Better Than Wrenn, Actually? --------------------------------------------------------------- The crew discusses March of the Machines early spoilers, an upcoming D&D Secret Lair drop and more before answering #MTGFishmail![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Single Scoop: Oops, I Brought a Deck From 2016 (Explorer) --------------------------------------------------------------- At one point, Golgari Delirium was a tier 1 deck.
