Along with the Frodos, Gandalfs, and Samwises of the world, the biggest news is that the set will contain Magic's first ever 1 of 1 card: a serialized copy of [The One Ring](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth/The+One+Ring#paper) which will be found in a collector booster pack. Ever since the announcement on Tuesday the community has been trying to figure out what this new addition to Magic means. [Reddit did some math]( based on the drop rates of [The One Ring](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth/The+One+Ring#paper) and other serialized cards from the set which suggests there will be somewhere around 3,000,000 collector booster for the set, making the odds of opening [The One Ring](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth/The+One+Ring#paper) roughly 1 in 3 million. As far as prices, there are already multiple offers of $100,000 on the table with speculation that the card could break $500,000 or even push towards seven figures (which could make it the most expensive card in the games history considering [a graded 10 Alpha](~:text=A%20PSA%2010%20Gem%20Mint,Alpha%20Black%20Lotus%20by%20%2428%2C900.)[Black Lotus](Edition/Black+Lotus#paper) sold for a record breaking $540,000 this week). In the grand scheme of things, [The One Ring](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth/The+One+Ring#paper) really doesn't matter to most of us - the odds of opening it are so small it's not even worth trying - but it seems likely that this is a harbinger of things to come and that more 1 of 1 cards will appear in the future. In other news, the Reserved List rare [Mind Over Matter](Over+Matter#paper) was bought out this week shooting up from $30 to $90 thanks to its ability to combo with [The One Ring](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth/The+One+Ring#paper) in Commander. The idea is you can tap [The One Ring](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth/The+One+Ring#paper) to draw a card and then discard the card to [Mind Over Matter](Over+Matter#paper) to untap [The One Ring](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth/The+One+Ring#paper), which you can then tap to draw two cards and so on and so forth until eventually you draw your entire deck. While the combo does seem fun, sadly it will now be out of the price range for many players. Since [Mind Over Matter](Over+Matter#paper) is super old and on the Reserved List, the odds of its price dropping meaningfully anytime soon is pretty low. If you want to add the combo to a deck, the options are likely to pay a premium for [Mind Over Matter](Over+Matter#paper) or simply use a proxy. At this point in the Commander community, few people will complain about a few proxies in a deck, especially if they are for pricey Reserved List cards. Finally a bit of digital finance news. Shadows Over Innistrad Remastered is releasing this week on Magic Arena, and while the set looks solid overall, perhaps the most impactful aspect is the rare dual land cycle. The original Snarls - [Port Town](of+New+Capenna+Commander/Port+Town#paper), [Choked Estuary](Legends+Battle+for+Baldurs+Gate/Choked+Estuary#paper), [Foreboding Ruins](United+Commander/Foreboding+Ruins#paper), [Game Trail](Neon+Dynasty+Commander/Game+Trail#paper) and [Fortified Village](All+Will+Be+One+Commander/Fortified+Village#paper) - are considered to be one of the worst rare dual land cycles of all time. But for Shadows Over Innistrad Remastered, Wizards is dropping their rarity down to uncommon, which is something that almost never happens. The high cost of building a decent manabase has long been one of Magic players biggest complaints both online and in paper, and even in a digital-only release, seeing a dual land cycle that has some potential to come into play untapped show up at uncommon is a big deal. On Arena the cycle immediately becomes the best budget dual land cycle for formats like Historic and Explorer, and while perhaps unlikely, we can also hope that this is a sign of things to come for paper as well. Having more playable duals show up at uncommon would go a long way towards dropping prices and making the actual game of Magic more accessible. Fingers crossed that we see more of this in the future. --------------------------------------------------------------- Podcast 242: Why are These Cards Banned in Modern? --------------------------------------------------------------- The crew dives deep into the Modern banned list.[Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- This Week in Legacy: A Brand New Legacy? --------------------------------------------------------------- Joe Dyer dives into the first week of the post ban Legacy world![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Commander Clash Podcast 086: Shark Tank: Play These Cards --------------------------------------------------------------- The crew bring their favorite underrated cards to the sharks this week!
