--------------------------------------------------------------- [Skysovereign, Consul Flagship](Consul+Flagship#paper)
[Cavalier of Flame](Set+2020/Cavalier+of+Flame#paper)
/newsletters This week was another fairly quiet one in the world of Magic finance. The biggest winner was [Skysovereign, Consul Flagship](Neon+Dynasty+Commander/Skysovereign+Consul+Flagship#paper). As recently as September, the legendary mythic vehicle was under $2, but after shooting up another 46% this week it's now over $7.50. This is mostly because Skysovereign has developed into an odd Pioneer staple thanks to [Karn, the Great Creator](of+the+Spark/Karn+the+Great+Creator#paper) tutoring it from sideboards in Mono-Green Devotion and [Greasefang, Okiba Boss](Neon+Dynasty/Greasefang+Okiba+Boss#paper) decks using it as a secondary payoff alongside [Parhelion II](Neon+Dynasty+Commander/Parhelion+II#paper). If you need some copies, you can probably save a little bit by grabbing the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Commander printing, which is currently about $1 cheaper than the Kaladesh printing. It was also recently included in the Warhammer Secret Lair drops, so more supply should be hitting the market soon. As such, I wouldn't expect to see it rise too much more even though it is a legitimate Pioneer staple at this point. Speaking of Pioneer, [Cavalier of Flame (planeswalker stamp)](Set+2020/Cavalier+of+Flame-planeswalker+stamp#paper) also saw a 44% increase this week to just over $5. Recently a [Fires of Invention (planeswalker stamp)](of+Eldraine+Promos/Fires+of+Invention-planeswalker+stamp#paper) deck that looks very similar to the one played in Standard a couple of years ago has been posting good finishes in the format, in part because [Leyline Binding](United/Leyline+Binding#paper) allows it to play [Keruga, the Macrosage](Lair+of+Behemoths/Keruga+the+Macrosage#paper) as a companion while still having cheap interaction. Considering that that the green member of the M20 cavalier cycle - [Cavalier of Thorns](Set+2020/Cavalier+of+Thorns#paper) - is currently pushing $20, there is probably still room for [Cavalier of Flame (planeswalker stamp)](Set+2020/Cavalier+of+Flame-planeswalker+stamp#paper) to grow, although right now the green Cavalier shows up in 14% of Pioneer decks while the red one is in less than 4%, which means it's going to take a lot more play for [Cavalier of Flame (planeswalker stamp)](Set+2020/Cavalier+of+Flame-planeswalker+stamp#paper) to get anywhere near [Cavalier of Thorns](Set+2020/Cavalier+of+Thorns#paper) price. Finally this week, some good news on the Magic Arena economy. For The Brothers' War, if you purchase 10 packs from the store (with gold or gems) you'll receive a free Golden Pack which contains six duplicate protected rares or mythics, with at least one mythic guaranteed. What this means in practice is that, assuming you buy at least ten packs, each Brothers' War pack you buy will essentially give you 1.6 rares or mythics, which should greatly speed up set acquisition for players who don't like (or aren't good at) limited. Traditionally when there is a positive change to the Arena economy there are cuts elsewhere to keep the economy from becoming more player-friendly overall, but in this case it seems like the addition of Golden Packs is all upside for players and should actually help make it easier for constructed players to build decks. Right now Golden Packs are only offered for The Brothers' War, but hopefully if Wizards sees a positive response, they'll expand them to other sets. --------------------------------------------------------------- The Brothers' War Commander Deck Upgrade: Urza's Iron Alliance
