[Alrund's Epiphany](Epiphany#paper)
[Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Draft Booster Box](Midnight+Hunt/Innistrad+Midnight+Hunt+Draft+Booster+Box-sealed#paper) This week in the world of Magic finance, the big winner was [Child of Alara](em>Conflux:Foil/Child+of+Alara#paper), which more than double in price to just over $18. Why did a decade old five-color mythic suddenly see a huge price spike? The answer seems to be the banning of [Golos, Tireless Pilgrim](Set+2020/Golos+Tireless+Pilgrim#paper) in Commander a couple of weeks ago. While many good-stuff [Golos, Tireless Pilgrim](Set+2020/Golos+Tireless+Pilgrim#paper) decks could replace the Construct with just about anything, Golos Lands decks didn't have an obvious replacement available. It seems that players have decided that [Child of Alara](em>Conflux:Foil/Child+of+Alara#paper) is the best option, which makes sense. If your goal is to win with something like [Maze's End](Cards:Foil/Mazes+End#paper), [Child of Alara](em>Conflux:Foil/Child+of+Alara#paper) won't ramp you to victory like [Golos, Tireless Pilgrim](Set+2020/Golos+Tireless+Pilgrim#paper) could, but repeatedly sweeping the nonland permanents from the battlefield is a great way to buy enough time to set up the kill. Meanwhile in Standard, [Alrund's Epiphany (planeswalker stamp)](em>Kaldheim/Alrunds+Epiphany-planeswalker+stamp#paper) is on the rise. The mythic has proven to be one of the best finishers in Standard and the most-played card in the format, leading to a 24% increase up to $18. Just how high [Alrund's Epiphany (planeswalker stamp)](em>Kaldheim/Alrunds+Epiphany-planeswalker+stamp#paper) can go remains to be seen. It doesn't really see much play in Commander (only showing up in 2% of decks according to EDHRec), which limits its potential, as does the possibility of a Standard banning. Increasing a bit more seems likely, especially if it dominates Worlds this weekend, although buy in with caution, since it seems to be the card that's most likely to be banned in Standard at some point if Wizards deems it necessary to make a change. Finally, the expected value of Innistrad: Midnight Hunt is mostly holding steady, with the expected value of all boxes coming in at slightly less than the retail price of the sealed box. The long term future of the set is interesting. On one hand, Innistrad: Crimson Vow is releasing in about a month, which greatly limits the amount of time players will be opening Innistrad: Midnight Hunt compared to past fall sets. On the other hand, we already know that a bunch of cards from the set will be reprinted this winter in Innistrad: Double Feature, which could keep prices low. Either way, it's important to note that the set will be in Standard for two years and the prices of Standard often peaks during the winter before rotation. I'd lean towards picking up the best Standard cards from the set over the next few months, which will likely be their low point. --------------------------------------------------------------- Against the Odds: Old Stickfingers (Standard)
