--------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive ----

[width="1"] [MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] --------------------------------------------------------------- The Expected Value of Time Spiral Remastered --------------------------------------------------------------- How much value should you expect to open from a box of Time Spiral Remastered? Let's find out![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Selective Memory](Memory#paper) [Liliana of the Veil](of+the+Veil#paper) [Chromatic Orrery](Set+2021/Chromatic+Orrery#paper) This week the biggest winner is one of the least useful looking cards in the history of Magic: [Selective Memory](em>Worldwake/Selective+Memory#paper). The Worldwake rare jumped over 1000% from bulk to $6. In general, exiling all non-land cards from your library is a negative rather than a positive, which means [Selective Memory](em>Worldwake/Selective+Memory#paper) doesn't see much play in any format, although in theory it can be a combo piece in an all MDFC landless deck looking to win with something like [Thassa's Oracle](em>Theros+Beyond+Death/Thassas+Oracle#paper) or [Goblin Charbelcher](Decks+Merfolk+vs+Goblins/Goblin+Charbelcher#paper). My guess is that the buyout is mostly speculative. Cards with unique effects like [Selective Memory](em>Worldwake/Selective+Memory#paper) are always one set away from suddenly becoming a combo piece and being in-demand. Over the short term it looks likely to trend back down, but it wouldn't be shocking if eventually the right card comes along to make [Selective Memory](em>Worldwake/Selective+Memory#paper) into a legitimate playable card. Meanwhile, [Liliana of the Veil](Masters+2017+Edition/Liliana+of+the+Veil#paper) is slowly ticking up in price again with the Innistrad version leading the way this week, increasing 11% to $80. There are a few reasons for this increased. For one thing traditional (non-[Lurrus of the Dream-Den](Lair+of+Behemoths/Lurrus+of+the+Dream-Den#paper)) Jund is on the rise in post-banning Modern. It's also been over two years since [Liliana of the Veil](Masters+2017+Edition/Liliana+of+the+Veil#paper) was last reprinted in Ultimate Masters, which means new, cheap supply is drying up. With vaccinations speeding up, there's also a glimmer of hope that paper tournaments will return sometime this year, which would be a boon for paper Modern cards. However, perhaps the most surprising reason for [Liliana of the Veil](Masters+2017+Edition/Liliana+of+the+Veil#paper)'s rise is Commander demand. In general [Liliana of the Veil](Masters+2017+Edition/Liliana+of+the+Veil#paper) isn't played in Commander, but there are two exceptions: [Tergrid, God of Fright](em>Kaldheim/Tergrid+God+of+Fright#paper) decks and [Tinybones, Trinket Thief](em>Jumpstart/Tinybones+Trinket+Thief#paper) decks, where [Liliana of the Veil](Masters+2017+Edition/Liliana+of+the+Veil#paper) offers a cheap way to make everyone discard. Both of these commanders are relatively new, which probably means Commander players are picking up the Modern all-star for the first time, opening up a new market for Liliana's services and increasing the price. One word of warning: the more expensive [Liliana of the Veil](Masters+2017+Edition/Liliana+of+the+Veil#paper) gets, the more likely it is to be reprinted again. If you're thinking of splurging on a copy, keep in mind that the planeswalker could show up in any Masters set and drop back down near $50. Finally, in the world of Commander, [Chromatic Orrery (planeswalker stamp)](Set+2021/Chromatic+Orrery-planeswalker+stamp#paper) increased 13% on the week to just under $17. We've reached the point where Core Set 2021 isn't actively being opened anymore, which means it's time for some of the best Commander cards in the set to start increasing in price. It's also worth keeping an eye on [Mangara, the Diplomat](Set+2021/Mangara+the+Diplomat#paper). Remember when [The Great Henge (planeswalker stamp)](of+Eldraine/The+Great+Henge-planeswalker+stamp#paper) hit $60 a couple of months ago? Well, [Mangara, the Diplomat](Set+2021/Mangara+the+Diplomat#paper) sees just as much Commander play as [The Great Henge (planeswalker stamp)](of+Eldraine/The+Great+Henge-planeswalker+stamp#paper), both showing up in 10% of decks according to EDHRec, both are mythics, and [Mangara, the Diplomat](Set+2021/Mangara+the+Diplomat#paper) likely has less supply since Core Set 2021 is a less popular set than Throne of Eldraine. It's also up from $7 to $9 over the last couple of months, a trend that is probably likely to continue until it is eventually reprinted. Over the next few months as we creep towards rotation, keep an eye on Commander staples from rotating sets. It might be your last, best chance to pick them up on the cheap (until they are reprinted at least). Meme or Dream?
