Let's see [Flagstones of Trokair](Spiral/Flagstones+of+Trokair#paper) [Teferi's Protection](Lair:Foil/Teferis+Protection#paper) This week in the world of finance it's apparently Pirate week, with two of the biggest winners being Pirate lords [Corsair Captain](em>Jumpstart/Corsair+Captain#paper) (up nearly 200% from under $3 to almost $8) and [Admiral Beckett Brass](em>Ixalan/Admiral+Beckett+Brass#paper) (up 153% to $2.50, with foils jumping from $10 to $23). Why are Pirates suddenly spiking? The answer here is that some leaks from Commander Legends have suggested that Pirates are a supported tribe in the set, which might offer enough new toys for Pirates to be a legitimate Commander deck. Keep an eye out for similar prices increase over the next couple of weeks as Commander Legends is officially previewed. Commander is already a dominant force in the Magic market, and if Commander Legends is similar to Modern Horizons with a goal of powering up archetypes that are fun and popular but are currently lacking key pieces, we could see a lot of random old cards suddenly increase in price as players look to build decks powered by new Commander Legends cards. Meanwhile in Modern, [Flagstones of Trokair](Masters/Flagstones+of+Trokair#paper) is still on the rise, gaining another 16% on the week to $18.50. About a month ago, copies were readily available for less than $5, but the printing of [Cleansing Wildfire](em>Zendikar+Rising/Cleansing+Wildfire#paper) has greatly increased the playability of and demand for [Flagstones of Trokair](Masters/Flagstones+of+Trokair#paper). While the land was already showing up in some [Field of the Dead](Set+2020/Field+of+the+Dead#paper) decks alongside [Elvish Reclaimer](Set+2020/Elvish+Reclaimer#paper), a lot of random Modern decks are suddenly interested in using [Cleansing Wildfire](em>Zendikar+Rising/Cleansing+Wildfire#paper) to blow up [Flagstones of Trokair](Masters/Flagstones+of+Trokair#paper), which turns [Cleansing Wildfire](em>Zendikar+Rising/Cleansing+Wildfire#paper) into a [Rampant Growth](Box+Set/Rampant+Growth#paper)-style card that also cantrips. The new higher price likely means that [Flagstones of Trokair](Masters/Flagstones+of+Trokair#paper) is moving up the ranks for a possible reprinting (although it was reprinted not that long ago in Ultimate Masters), but in the meantime, it wouldn't be a surprise to see it continue to rise. After being close to unplayable for years, there is now legitimate Modern demand for the land. Finally, the Extra Life Secret Lair drop featuring [Teferi's Protection](Booster/Teferis+Protection#paper), [Amulet of Vigor](Booster+Retail+Edition+Foils:Foil/Amulet+of+Vigor#paper), [Collected Company](of+Tarkir/Collected+Company#paper) and [Consecrated Sphinx](em>Mirrodin+Besieged/Consecrated+Sphinx#paper) is going on sale in a couple of weeks. At first glance, the drop seems like a good way to get $100 worth of cards for $60 while also supporting a worthy cause. However, the long term price of cards in Secret Lair drops can sometimes be counter-intuitive, as an article from [Cassie LaBelle on TCGplayer]( pointed out this week. In general, the most valuable Secret Lairs over the long term are often the ones that were least popular while they were on sale, while Secret Lair drops that seem like slam dunks actually end up being among the least valuable. The problem is that if a Secret Lair has good value, a ton of people buy it, which increases the supply of the cards and keeps their prices in check, while unpopular drops have much lower supply, making it easier for prices to rise in the future.
