[width="1"] [MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] --------------------------------------------------------------- Jumpstart Previews --------------------------------------------------------------- Trinket+Thief#paper the+Blessed#paper Shepherd#paper the+Grandiloquent#paper Titan#paper Whispering+One#paper We got a double dose of previews this week, as Core Set 2021 previews wrapped up, and the entirety of Jumpstart was previewed. Lots of high-valued reprints with the new cards being Commander-focused. Be sure to check out our day-by-day breakdown: - [Core Set 2021 Spoilers — June 15 | Mega Cryptic Command and Shrines]( - [Core Set 2021 Spoilers — June 16 | Complete Spoilers]( - [Jumpstart Spoilers — June 17 | Tiny Legendary Skeleton]( - [Jumpstart Spoilers — June 18 | Commander Reprints]( - [Jumpstart Spoilers — June 19 | Legendary Unicorn, Goblin, Minotaur]( - [Jumpstart Spoilers — June 20 | Complete Previews]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Budget Magic: Rakdos Menace (Standard) --------------------------------------------------------------- 2BMenace%2BTribal-0bda159d-f15b-465b-ac3f-7037c2322cce%2Ejpg One of the unique and under-appreciated aspects of Ikoria is that is gave support to keyword tribal decks. Can menace tribal compete in Ikoria Standard 2.0 on a budget? Let's find out![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Bottomless Pit](Pit#paper) [Workhorse]( [Didgeridoo]( This week, pretty much all of the big finance news is tied to Jumpstart and the new legends the set is adding to the Commander format. First we have [Bottomless Pit](em>Stronghold/Bottomless+Pit#paper), with the Stronghold uncommon jumping nearly 1000% from bulk uncommon prices to almost $6 thanks to [Tinybones, Trinket Thief](em>Jumpstart/Tinybones+Trinket+Thief#paper). The Jumpstart Skeleton Rogue legend really likes cards that make opponents discard during their turn, and [Bottomless Pit](em>Stronghold/Bottomless+Pit#paper) is perhaps the best option in all of Magic. Thankfully [Bottomless Pit](em>Stronghold/Bottomless+Pit#paper) is not on the reserved list, so a reprint at some point in the future seems likely. Meanwhile, the Exodus rare [Workhorse](em>Exodus/Workhorse#paper) shot up from around $2 to near $12 as a potential combo piece for our new Unicorn blink commander [Emiel the Blessed](em>Jumpstart/Emiel+the+Blessed#paper). In theory, if you can get an anthem like [Glorious Anthem](Set+2021:Foil/Glorious+Anthem#paper) on the battlefield to buff [Workhorse](em>Exodus/Workhorse#paper)'s toughness or something like [Hardened Scales](of+Tarkir/Hardened+Scales#paper) to add an extra counter to [Workhorse](em>Exodus/Workhorse#paper) you can make infinite colorless mana by removing four counters from [Workhorse](em>Exodus/Workhorse#paper) to make mana and then blinking it for three mana with [Emiel the Blessed](em>Jumpstart/Emiel+the+Blessed#paper) to reset the counters. While the combo is pretty janky, it can work in a mono-white deck with [Emiel the Blessed](em>Jumpstart/Emiel+the+Blessed#paper) as it commander, which seems to be the main reason people are excited about it. In multi-color decks with [Emiel the Blessed](em>Jumpstart/Emiel+the+Blessed#paper) in the 99 there are several other ways to make infinite mana with Emiel involving cards like [Brood Monitor](for+Zendikar/Brood+Monitor#paper) and [Panharmonicon](em>Kaladesh/Panharmonicon#paper), or [[Priest of Urabrask] and [Zirda, the Dawnwaker](Lair+of+Behemoths/Zirda+the+Dawnwaker#paper). Last but not least we have [Didgeridoo](em>Homelands/Didgeridoo#paper). The Homelands rare tripled up from around $5 to $15 thanks to the first good Minotaur commander in [Sethron, Hurloon General](em>Jumpstart/Sethron+Hurloon+General#paper) being printed in Jumpstart. [Didgeridoo](em>Homelands/Didgeridoo#paper) is one of the best cards you can play in a Minotaur tribal deck, and Minotaurs are a semi-popular casual tribe that has been held back in Commander by the lack of a good legend. Add in the fact that it is super old and on the reserved list, and in this case the surprise is that it only cost $5 before Jumpstart, not that it costs $15 now. [Didgeridoo](em>Homelands/Didgeridoo#paper) is just the kind of unique effect (that can never be reprinted again thanks to the Reserved List) that ends up being expensive when it's tribe ends up getting support, and one thing we've learned in the past year is that Wizards is very dedicated to supporting fringe Commander tribes with supplemental products.
