--------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive ----

[MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] [width="1"] --------------------------------------------------------------- Nadu vs. Hogaak | What's the Most Broken Deck in Modern's History? --------------------------------------------------------------- Nadu is coming off a historically dominant Pro Tour performance, but how does it match up against Hogaak - one of the most broken Modern decks of all time? Let's find out![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [The One Ring](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth/The+One+Ring#paper) [Elegant Parlor](Murders+at+Karlov+Manor/Elegant+Parlor#paper) [The Gitrog Monster](over+Innistrad/The+Gitrog+Monster#paper) This week in the world of Magic finance, the biggest news is that [The One Ring (bundle)](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth:Foil/The+One+Ring-bundle#paper) is becoming a huge problem. After showing up in nearly half of the decks at Pro Tour Modern Horizons 3, the pack version of [The One Ring (bundle)](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth:Foil/The+One+Ring-bundle#paper) climbed 30% this week to an absurd $150, and the cheapest version - the bundle promo - is up to a massive $110 after being around $80 a couple of weeks ago. Honestly, I'm not sure what to say about [The One Ring (bundle)](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth:Foil/The+One+Ring-bundle#paper) at this point. If you want to be able to play many Modern decks, a playset of [The One Ring (bundle)](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth:Foil/The+One+Ring-bundle#paper) is necessary, but it's also hard to recommend spending between $400 and $600 on a playset when the risk of a banning is high (or at least it should be high, if it wasn't for Wizards' seeming reluctance to ban cards from Lord of the Rings). The next scheduled ban list update is at the end of August. If [The One Ring (bundle)](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth:Foil/The+One+Ring-bundle#paper) isn't banned then it will be pretty clear that Wizards is okay about the warping effect the card has on the Modern format. The safe move would be to sell your copies now, but considering how inconsistent Wizards' ban philosophy is in Modern, there's also a meaningful chance the card remains legal. If it does, it will likely continue to increase in price. Meanwhile in Standard, the surveil lands are increasing in price. The biggest gainer this week was [Elegant Parlor](Murders+at+Karlov+Manor/Elegant+Parlor#paper), which gained 39% to $7.65, although [Undercity Sewers](Murders+at+Karlov+Manor/Undercity+Sewers#paper), [Commercial District](Murders+at+Karlov+Manor/Commercial+District#paper), and [Hedge Maze](Murders+at+Karlov+Manor/Hedge+Maze#paper) all increased in price as well. With the card sticking around in Standard for two more years and their increasing importance in Modern, I'd look to snag my playsets now. Murders at Karlov Manor isn't really being opened anymore, so supply is stagnating. I wouldn't be surprised to see the lands creep up towards $20 over the next year. Finally in Commander, [The Gitrog Monster](over+Innistrad/The+Gitrog+Monster#paper) shot up 44% this week to $14 thanks to [The Necrobloom](Horizons+3/The+Necrobloom#paper), which not only easily combos with [The Gitrog Monster](over+Innistrad/The+Gitrog+Monster#paper) and a discard outlet thanks to its ability to give lands in your graveyard dredge, but is also the single most popular commander from Modern Horizons 3 - even ahead of [Nadu, Winged Wisdom](Horizons+3/Nadu+Winged+Wisdom#paper) - according to EDHRec. If you need some copies you'll have to pay a premium. It's worth keeping in mind that the card is very reprintable, so sooner or later more copies will hit the market, bringing the price back down. --------------------------------------------------------------- Much Abrew: Soultrader Combo (Modern) --------------------------------------------------------------- Can Warren Soultrader make a new combo deck in Modern with the help of Gravecrawler and some sneaky Chthonian Nightmare graveyard synergies?
