[MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] [width="1"] --------------------------------------------------------------- Secret Lair Spoilers — May 10 | Spring 2024 Superdrop --------------------------------------------------------------- A new Superdrop worth of Secret Lairs, most of which were revealed during the course of last week[Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Budget Magic: Duplimancy Trailblazer Combo (Standard) --------------------------------------------------------------- 2BTrailblazer%2BCombo-f666807e-f66b-4945-860e-8b8ee4ad5603%2Ejpg Does the printing of Outcaster Trailblazer mean it's finally time for Vesuvan Duplimancy to shine in Standard as a new Turn 4 kill combo? Let's find out![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Ancient Cornucopia](Big+Score/Ancient+Cornucopia#paper) [Pillage the Bog](of+Thunder+Junction/Pillage+the+Bog#paper) [Dandan]( This week in the world of Magic finance, one of the biggest gainers was The Big Score's [Ancient Cornucopia](Big+Score/Ancient+Cornucopia#paper) which shot up nearly 600% to $12. The three-mana value rock has started to see Standard play in some builds of Domain and Bant Control thanks to the absurd amount of life it can gain if it sticks on the battlefield. Toss in the relative scarcity of The Big Score cards and you end up with a $12 [Ancient Cornucopia](Big+Score/Ancient+Cornucopia#paper). Longer term this scarcity makes The Big Score cards appealing holds, especially ones like [Ancient Cornucopia](Big+Score/Ancient+Cornucopia#paper) that could theoretically see play in Commander, even though I'm not convinced gaining a bit of life - even a relatively large bit of life - makes it worth playing a three-mana value rock over cheaper ramping options. Meanwhile [Pillage the Bog](of+Thunder+Junction/Pillage+the+Bog#paper) also saw a big price jump this week, shooting up 216% to $4.80. The two-mana plot sorcery is basically a Golgari [Impulse](Night+Free-For-All/Impulse#paper) in the early game that more or less turns into a tutor later, which has made it a key card in the Jund Analyst Combo deck, while also giving it homes in decks like Niv to Light and Abzan Greasefang in Pioneer. Even with this week's big jump, I'd be tempted to hold [Pillage the Bog](of+Thunder+Junction/Pillage+the+Bog#paper). So far it hasn't really caught on in Commander, but that could change in the future. Toss in some eternal constructed play and the price could continue to grow. Finally this week, [Dandan]( is on the rise once again thanks to its quirky namesake format. If you're not familiar with the Dandan format, you can find a [full breakdown here](~:text=To%20put%20it%20as%20concisely,or%20you're%20milled%20out.), but it's essentially a two-player format where both players use one preconstructed deck built around [Dandan](. The reason for the big price increase this week, with copies moving from a couple of bucks up to $11-$18 dollars (with 5th Edition being the cheapest and Arabian Nights the most expensive) is that [Tolarian Community College featured the format on Shuffle Up and Play this week]( bringing a bunch of new eyes to the format. If you want to try out the format you'll have to pay more for your [Dandan](s, although long term I expect prices to drop because printing an official Dandan precon seems like a really easy way for Wizards to make some extra money. I'd be surprised if it doesn't happen eventually. --------------------------------------------------------------- Podcast 483: New Tarmogoyf, and It's So Bad --------------------------------------------------------------- The crew talks a ton of Modern Horizons 3 spoilers, a $3 million Black Lotus and a Comic Sans Secret Lair drop.[Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Commander Clash Podcast 146: Hot Takes, But We're Not Sure --------------------------------------------------------------- Takes so hot that we're not even sure ourselves![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Single Scoop: Jeskai Gnomes and Constructs --------------------------------------------------------------- Simulacrum Synthesizer has taken the world by storm so we take a poke at a Jeskai Artifacts deck that can poop out constructs and gnomes![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- This Week in Legacy: Legacy Round Table - The "Everybody Gets a Cowboy Hat!"
