[MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] [width="1"] --------------------------------------------------------------- Banned and Restricted Update, March 11, 2024: Violent Outburst Banned --------------------------------------------------------------- Violent Outburst banned in Modern, Ponder unrestricted in Vintage.[Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Budget Magic: I Solve the Case of the Filched Falcon --------------------------------------------------------------- 2BArtifacts-0ae9d408-27a9-4850-b2a9-08494e287af8%2Ejpg Do some new additions from Murders at Karlov Manor mean it's finally time for Syr Ginger to shine in Standard on a budget? Let's find out![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Ardent Plea](Reborn/Ardent+Plea#paper) [Bloodchief Ascension](Ascension#paper) [Picklock Prankster](of+Eldraine/Picklock+Prankster#paper) This week in the world of Magic finance the biggest winner - by far - was [Ardent Plea](Reborn/Ardent+Plea#paper). If you somehow missed it, on Monday Wizards banned [Violent Outburst](Reborn/Violent+Outburst#paper) in Modern to power down cascade decks like [Crashing Footfalls](Horizons/Crashing+Footfalls#paper) and [Living End](Spiral+Remastered/Living+End#paper) which has left cascade players scrambling for a replacement. While [Ardent Plea](Reborn/Ardent+Plea#paper) isn't nearly as good as [Violent Outburst](Reborn/Violent+Outburst#paper), mostly because it's not an instant, it's also the next best three-mana value cascade spell, leading to a massive 413% increase to just over $15. If you're looking for a cheaper replacement, there is one other three mana-value cascade spell in Magic in [Demonic Dread](Reborn/Demonic+Dread#paper), which is the worst of the bunch since you need a creature on the battlefield to target to even cast it. But at just $0.40 the price is right if you are looking to cascade on the cheap. Meanwhile in Commander [The Wise Mothman (foil etched)](Foil/The+Wise+Mothman-foil+etched#paper) - the second most popular of the new Fallout legends according to EDHRec - is making some financial waves. This week both [Bloodchief Ascension](Masters:Foil/Bloodchief+Ascension#paper) (up 81% to $14.25) and [Mindcrank](Masters/Mindcrank#paper) (up 82% to $12.50) doubled in price as an easy combo finish alongside the rad counters [The Wise Mothman (foil etched)](Foil/The+Wise+Mothman-foil+etched#paper) give opponents. If you aren't familiar with the combo, the idea is to get three quest counters on [Bloodchief Ascension](Masters:Foil/Bloodchief+Ascension#paper) so whenever a card goes into an opponent's graveyard, you drain for two and then stick a [Mindcrank](Masters/Mindcrank#paper) so whenever an opponent loses life they mill that many cards. Together this offers an infinite loop - an opponent loses life to [Bloodchief Ascension](Masters:Foil/Bloodchief+Ascension#paper) which causes them to mill because of [Mindcrank](Masters/Mindcrank#paper) which will again trigger Ascension to start the process over again. Once assembled you simply let the rad counters from [The Wise Mothman (foil etched)](Foil/The+Wise+Mothman-foil+etched#paper) start the loop by milling the opponent and drain the table out of the game! Finally in Pioneer, [Picklock Prankster](of+Eldraine/Picklock+Prankster#paper) is on the rise, shooting up 175% this week to just over $2, which is a pretty high price for an uncommon printed just a few months ago. The adventure two-drop is a key piece to Pioneer [Arclight Phoenix](Remastered:Foil/Arclight+Phoenix#paper) decks, which many people expected to be targeted with a banning this week, but managed to dodge the hammer. As an in-print uncommon, the price of [Picklock Prankster](of+Eldraine/Picklock+Prankster#paper) shouldn't get too high, but if you opened some Wilds of Eldraine, it's certainly worth pulling the Faerie from your bulk. --------------------------------------------------------------- Commander Clash Podcast 138: Cards We Hate But Still Play --------------------------------------------------------------- We hate these cards, but still play them?!
