The FBI has [opened a federal civil rights investigation]( into the shooting and will investigate it as a hate crime. [Yevgeny Prigozhin has been confirmed dead]( after genetic analysis of the bodies from this week's plane crash, Russian officials said Sunday. Prigozhin, the leader of the violent Wagner mercenary group who in June led his fighters on an [aborted mutinous march to Moscow](, had been presumed dead after the crash, which [the Kremlin says]( Putin was not involved with. This week, Fulton County, Georgia, [District Attorney Fani Willis]( showed the American public what the phrase [“no one is above the law”]( looks like. After setting a Friday deadline for Trump and his co-defendants to surrender to the Fulton County jail, Willis also set [$200,000 bail for Trump](, denied Mark Meadows’ [request for an extension](, and responded to defendant Kenneth Chesebro’s [request for a speedy trial]( by moving the [trial date up to October 23](, less than two months from now. On Thursday night, Trump arrived in Georgia for his [historic fourth arrest,]( during which the [first-ever mug shot]( of a former U.S. president was taken and Trump became [Fulton County Jail inmate P01135809.]( By Friday, [Trump and all 18 co-defendants]( had surrendered, but the question still looms of whether, or more likely how soon, the co-defendants could [turn on the former president]( to protect their own interests. Meanwhile, in an apparent competition to see who could have the worst week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ performance at the [disastrous first GOP primary debate]( Wednesday night [went viral]( for [all the wrong reasons](, although was overshadowed in many ways on [the chaotic stage]( by the [brazen climate change-denying antics](of Vivek Ramaswamy, the [morally-patronizing diatribes]( of Mike Pence, and the [lackluster one-liners]( of Chris Christie. Overall, the GOP debate had [no real winners](, although Trump’s decision [not to attend]( to participate in a transparent attempt to [upend the debate's ratings](with a sit-down interview with Tucker Carlson may have constituted a small victory for the voting public.
