Biden's ambitious budget would raise taxes on the wealthiest people and corporations, particularly large corporations, while offering $1 trillion in tax credits for low- and middle-income people. It calls for billions in new spending on Medicaid, child care, affordable housing and free community college, even as it would reduce the deficit by nearly $3 trillion over 10 years. Were congressional Republicans a functioning party, we'd be able to pit a GOP-controlled House's proposal against Biden's. But at this point, all we can say for sure is Biden's budget exists and the Republicans' budget doesnât.
