And it doesn't take much excavating to expose how ubiquitous that same sentiment of violence and extremism permeates the country today. Adam Kinzinger, one of two Republicans who sit on the Jan. 6 committee, knows this well, as he recently shared a series of voicemails left by enraged Trump supporters threatening the congressman with hanging, execution, and, of course, being sent to hell, because he dares go against Trump. Those expletive-ridden threats are only part of the story, says Dean Obeidallah. "We know that when Republican leaders are concerned for a person’s safety, they speak loudly," Obeidallah writes, citing the numerous outcries from the GOP when Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was the target of a potentially violent threat. But in Kinzinger's case, "The cascade of violent threats against a fellow Republican has been met with a deafening — and dangerous — silence,” he writes.
