McCarthy’s actions this week were driven by “a set of politicians uninterested in preserving democracy and keen to pander to any pro-Trump sentiment in their base.” Disappointing as the committee is at a failed bipartisan effort, “there is now a far greater chance it can get some real work done,” Aleem writes.
