We've seen too many tragic mass shootings since, each as "unambiguous and horrifying as the last," as [Cynthia Miller-Idriss writes](. Yet it's taken almost as many years for major governments like the U.S. to formally recognize white supremacy as a leading cause of violence. In large part, "that delay allowed white supremacist extremism to fester," Miller-Idriss writes, "leading the Oslo attacks to [directly inspire]( subsequent terrorist and mass shooter attacks and plots in at least six countries."
