It's a shocking development and one that former President Donald Trump might want to keep an eye on. Sarkozy is still popular with his country's conservatives and â like Trump â has been plotting a potential comeback. And, counter to Trump's claims that investigations into his actions are a "witch hunt," the Sarkozy case appears to be the rule of law playing out despite the power and support that the defendant wields. "Which is exactly how it should be," Hayes Brown writes. "Itâs in fact the opposite of what Trump himself has advocated for years, as he called repeatedly for his political opponents to be investigated and jailed for the crime of standing in his way."
