[View in browser]( [Image]( February 9, 2021 The Senate will finally begin the second impeachment trial of former president Donald Trump on Tuesday. It's not clear yet whether the senators will allow witnesses to be called during the trial, but the House Democrats running the prosecution asked Trump to appear last week. Senate Democrats could force him to appear — but German history offers a lesson about why that may not be the best idea, Hayes Brown writes. Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party were on trial for high treason in 1924 after a failed coup attempt. Rather than chastening the future dictator, the trial was a perfect amplifier for Hitler's hatred. "I don’t expect anything remotely as eloquent from the former president should he take the stand," Brown writes. "But there are inherent risks in giving Trump a renewed megaphone to spread his inanities now that he’s out of office and de-platformed from Twitter."
